Our Quality Control team uses the same checklist to review voice over samples from new applicants and every deliverable submitted to a project. Here's what they look for:
Project requirements
- Does the voice match the language, accent, gender and age requested?
Project instructions
- Did the Pro follow the directions provided in the project?
- Did the Pro use the reference sample or any files attached to the project?
- Was the script read exactly as provided?
- If there are multiple takes, are they complete and organized?
- If syncing was requested, is the recording synced as instructed?
Technical quality
- The voice sounds like it was recorded with professional equipment, at a proper distance from the mic.
- No room echo, distortion or clipping.
- Volume is normalized around -3 dB peak.
- No editing issues, such as clicks, pops or audible cuts.
- No more silence than needed at the start or end (about 0.5 seconds is suggested).
- The audio isn't over-processed (for example, heavy noise reduction, EQ, compression or limiting).
- No distracting breaths, mouth clicks, plosives or sibilance.
- No hiss, electrical hum or background noise (like traffic, fans or people).
Performance
- The delivery isn't monotone or flat.
- The voice doesn't sound robotic or AI-generated.
- Words are clearly pronounced, with no mumbling.
- The voice doesn't sound overly nasal or raspy.
Other requirements
- The recording doesn't include contact details or content unrelated to the project.
- If there's background music, the voice is easy to understand and the mix is balanced.
- Samples convey a complete idea, it's clear which voice belongs to the Pro, and they're labeled correctly (language, accent, gender, age and purpose).
Recording format
Pros record in .wav, mono, 44.1 kHz, 16-bit, normalized to -3 dB peak. As a client, you'll receive your voice over in both .wav and .mp3. Learn more in What formats do you handle?
