Why was my audition rejected?

    Hi David!

Thanks for sharing it with us.

Your voice is awesome! Seriously. I liked your tone a lot and the overall quality is really great! The reason I believe it was rejected because the volume is quite low. We require all the takes to be submitted to be normalized to -3dBFS peak. I had to turn the volume way too much to be able to pick up your audition properly.

I also noticed there are some small pops throughout the recording and an editing clip at the end of the file. The pops could be fixed by recording a little be farther from the mic and/or using a pop filter. They're not super loud, but it did bother me a bit!

To fix the editing clip, it's a matter of using a fade out. I usually use long fades to avoid sudden clipping. I've found that shorter fades are more prone to let clips sound! You may want to try that out.

    Hope this helps!

    Hello, David.

Thank you for sharing your audio.

Looking at your audio and as mentioned in the internal revision requested at the time of your application, the main problem with the recording is that the master level is too soft.

We ask for -3dbFS Peak because it's a good middle point between raw and processed audio. The audio sounds loud enough in case the client needs it ready-to-use, but it also gives some flexibility in case of any additional processing.

Please have in mind that if the volume of the file is too low, additional gain will be required and undesired noises will start to show up.

David, make sure you record and export the final audio at optimal levels. From a recording perspective, it's crucial to know your way between the different stages of the recording process to achieve best results at the end.

We invite you to review a recap of a webinar we hosted on input gain and adjusting levels: https://goo.gl/OHknyq.

    I hope this helps!

    Juan.
