    Hey Tanya!

    Thanks for sharing your audio.

Unfortunately the hiss is still quite noticeable. You can hear it clearly at the very end. I think the noise may come from the mic. I also have the Shure sm7b, it's an amazing mic. However, this dynamic mic requires big amounts of gain to reach optimal levels. So you do need a robust preamp to match the mic appropriately.

You didn't mention any preamp in the list above, so I'm guessing that the hiss can come from that stage in the recording chain. Have you tried the CL-1 Cloudlifter or other similar product? The other day we tested the SS-1 of Simply Sound and the results were amazing. I was surprised of the transparency of the gain provided. I think that would work great for you!

Let me know what you think!

    Best,

    Juan

    Hi Tanya,

I think the problem is coming from the EMU preamp. It's a unit that was designed more than 10 years ago so maybe you could go for a newer alternative. Nowadays audio interfaces are much better designed and don't produce as much hiss (and are cheaper!). But if changing your preamp is not in the cards then trying what Juan suggested is a great solution. Here's an Amazon link: https://www.amazon.com/Cloud-Microphones-CL-1-Cloudlifter-1-channel/dp/B004MQSV04/ref=lp_9130715011_1_1?srs=9130715011&ie=UTF8&qid=1509123110&sr=8-1

    Hope that helps!
