Submission rejected, but why?
I feel heartbroken as my application to Voice Bunny was rejected. I have been doing some VO work already using the same home studio equipment, however my demo was rejected with remarks:
- Room echo, heard throughout your application.
- Hiss, heard throughout your application.
- Your voice sounds over-processed throughout your application.
I am not sure I am able to detect any reverb/hiss, and I must have played my demo 25 times now, when I hear myself. I am not sure what they meant by over processed voice, I didn't add any effect or processing (except that I record using the Noice reduction feature of Samson Deck software (ships with Samson C01U mic). I cannot possibly avoid the use of this feature since the mic catches all kind of noice without it -- including hiss. But what I am unsure is how there can be a hiss sound in my recording when I am using this filter.
Please do listen to the demo and provide your valuable opinion and please do help me out on how I can correct these problems.
Thanks for your time,
Debashish

Hi Debashish
Thanks for sharing!
I can, indeed, listen to all the problems mentioned in the review. I'm using the Shure MDR-7506 headphones and Audiotechnica ATH M50x.
More likely this issue is coming from your microphone. Keep in mind the USB microphones are not fit for professional recording applications. These is because they usually have lower grade components to be able to offer an affordable microphone for podcasts and/or scratch takes. You can learn more about this on our webinar recap about microphones: https://help.bunnyinc.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/205414030-Microphone-101
I suggest you update your equipment before trying again!
Thanks so much Angela for your time.
May I ask you for another favor? Given my voice type (I am not sure what type that would be, will be great to hear from you) what mic should be suitable? I am not really a sound guy so I don't at all understand the use/impact of pre-amps et al (though I am Software professional so can manage to use Audacity or such like software). I can invest probably up to 30k INR (~500 USD). Would really really appreciate if you could suggest me any additional kit that should go with the mic. I current use Samson C01U with a shock-mount and pop filter.
Also Angela, my primary strength is in Hindi, and I recall last time I also was given a Hindi script for audition (which I couldn't complete on time as I was on holidays), but this time around I was given an English script. How can I request a Hindi script next time around?
Appreciate your time and feedback.
Hi Debashish
Thank you for your responsiveness.
In regards to the microphone, we hosted a webinar on the topic so you can give yourself an idea. You can check it here: https://help.bunnyinc.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/205414030-Microphone-101 We went over everything you, as a VO, may need to know about microphones and how to choose one. I wouldn't be able to give you a good recommendation on a specific mic as I'm not 100% keen on your voice. However, I wouldn't recommend the use of the C01U given that it's a USB microphone. For the reasons explained, these are not ideal for professional voice over.
In regards to the application, we could go ahead and restart the application so you can choose Hindi instead of English. Once you have passed the process, you can add English - India as a complementary accent. Would that work?
Let me know!
Thanks again Angela! "Not keen on my voice", aww that breaks my heart again :)
I'm sorry for that! What I meant was that I'm not keen the microphone is the best for your voice. Your tone is really good! I'm sorry!!!!
