Audition Rejections (Hiss when not talking)

    Hello Reuben!

Thank you for sharing your case with us.

I was listening to your samples and I understand the issue, there are some artifacts happening when you speak, and to me, it does not sound exactly like hiss, but similar in regards that it creates some soft crackling noise that could be due to a process being applied to the voice or something caused by the AD conversion.

Could you share a completely raw file with us? that would definitely help pinpoint the issue a bit more.

    Thank you!

    Daniel

Hey Daniel.  Thanks for taking a listen.  Here is a completely raw version with the breaths and all.  I only snipped the beginning of silence so you wouldn't have to wait to listen.  Here are two different links(wasn't sure if one made it more pronounced or not) since you are listening for artifacts when I am speaking rather than not.

    Hello again Reuben!

That raw file definitely sounds better (I checked the Bandlab link), there might be some processing being done that causes those artifacts from before, could you walk me through the processes added to your recordings? We might be able to discover what causes that issue. And regarding breaths, don't worry, you can always just edit them out making sure to use fades where needed so you get rid of them without any extra processing (some people might use noise gates but I definitely don't recommend doing that, it is better to just edit them out).

Let me know and I will help you find out what might be causing the issue!

    Kind regards,

    Daniel

Hey Daniel, Thanks. Initially my chain was just a noise gate @-48 -20reduction low cut at 80 and hi cut @ 12khz with a Mouth DeClick default widened to 1.5 also.

Then when I received the hiss feedback I added voice Denoise, nectar 3, and Ozone to finish.

Since it wasn't between the words, but rather around the words, and my noise floor is typically low, I suspect my gate was set too high and mouth declick too wide.

    Hi Reuben!

That makes sense, could be that. Also, personally, I don't feel that you need the De-click plugin that much, and I have seen how that kind of process can definitely cause artifacts, so maybe you can ignore that one and keep the rest of the chain which sounds pretty good! (I especially love Nectar and Ozone myself too).

Just as a small question, do you use Izotope's RX Vocal de-noise? It might be my favorite De-noise plugin, it is pretty clean!

Hey Daniel, yes the voice Denoise I mentioned was Isotope RX. However, when I used these normally great results the response was that it was unrecognizable. I figure you can see all the submissions.
So do I resubmit? What is the process?

    Hi Reuben!

I suggest that you resubmit without the De-click plugging, and keeping everything else.

To do this, you can go to your profile and click on the section that says:

"You started an application, click here to continue it"

That should create a reconsideration request and depending on the queue, you should receive the new project in around 1-2 weeks.

Let me know how it goes and good luck with that new test!

    Daniel
