Hi Willem, my name is Aaron, I am a fellow voice actor!
    First of all, great performance!
While I can tell you have definitely are getting really comfortable with your gear and taking great care in your setup, as well as your performance skills, I have to admit I can still hear a large amount of room echo in the recording.
You might want to try using strategic splits and fades during post-editing to remove all possible audio during silent parts, and using the fades to also eliminate unwanted room echo!
Let me know if you want to chat more about this!
    Good luck with everything!
    -Aaron M.

    Hey Aaron,

Thanks for the quick response and the advice! I'll be sure to cut during the unused sections of audio to reduce the risk of room echo. My current DAW for my VO projects is Logic Pro X, so I wanted to see if you knew any effects within the software that can help reduce vocal echo as I record. I'm currently using a Noise Gate, a Limiter, a DeEsser Function, and I'm measuring with a level meter. Anything else I should add?

Thank you for the help so far, look forward to hearing from you again!

    Cheers,

    Willem

    Hey Aaron,

I did some research on plugin options and I think I've finally got something that has fixed that echo issue. If you're free to review, I've attached it as a new audio file to the dropbox link above. Would love your POV!

    Cheers,

Hi Willem, and Aaron (GO AARON!!)

Thank you for using this space. We listened to your samples, you can definitely tell a difference regarding room echo, which is very helpful. That being said, we have a couple of suggestions for you:

    • it will always be better to tackle room/acoustics issues right from the recording stage rather than in post. Why? because plugins and processing might harm your audio quality instead of helping it improve. As Aaron knows, we always suggest our Pros to do their best on acoustics before recording, and this doesn't mean spending a lot of money on treatment. You could make decent environments at home with pillows, blankets, carpet, towels... all of this will help tremendously when dealing with room echo.
    • regarding plugins, we suggest you lower the threshold, that way, it won't affect your samples. In this case, our QC team perceived a bit much compression on your audio. you could simply dial back the settings and you should be good to go.

Let us know how it goes and if this helps,

    We're all here for you!

    Hey Johnatan,

Thank you so much for the heads up! Lowering that threshold made a huge difference, feeling really good about the following sample.

If there's any other notes please let me know! If not, I think I just found my default settings for my voice tracks!

    Cheers,

    Hey Johnatan,

Here's an updated version of the sample (Sorry, I'm a bit of a perfectionist :) )

    Thank you,

    Willem

    Hi Willem!

I wanted to jump in here to give you some extra feedback!

That last audio definitely sounds better and there is a definite improvement, although my personal opinion is that it is a bit too compressed still, lowering your compression can also decrease a bit of the "boxiness" present, which refers to the early sound reflections that happen on an enclosed space like the one you showed us before. I think you would greatly benefit from some extra acoustic treatment on the wall, door, and maybe a bit more carpeting on the floor (you can use any old carpet, the thicker the better!)

Please share any extra samples that you would like us to review!

    Kind regards,

    Daniel

    Hi Willem,

This is really cool! There is such an improvement from the previous file, congrats on that!

I like the quality of this one so much more, I think you got it! I would only slightly EQ a bit of the low end, decreasing like -2dB around 120-140Hz, but it is something personal that I would do, and it is not necessary since you seem to be ready to apply again!

Give it a go, I think this is pretty nice quality, and I will keep an eye on your new application project.

    Kind regards,

    Daniel

    Hey Daniel,

That is GREAT news, I'm so glad to hear that! I've taken your advice and have reduced 1.8 dB at 100Hz from that recording and have linked it below.

I'll be sure to submit my app again, talk soon!

    Best,

    Willem

    Hi Willem!

I just checked that last file and to be very honest I prefer your previous one hahaha maybe leave your settings the way you had them that last time, and I think you are ready to go!

I hope you have a wonderful day!

    Daniel
