Rejection for not being at -3dBFS, when it is, plus spurious room echo
Hi,
I have just worked on contest 67562F46C1C7C5EB939A and my work has been rejected for the following reasons:
-There is audible room echo (reverberation) impacting your recording
-The volume of your audio is undesirably low. Please normalize the volume level to -3dBFS, as per our quality control requirements.
I have listened to my submission over and over again and can hear none of the echo and reverb which you state is there.
I have also re-normalised my submission and the levels did not move a jot. I've also compared them to my original audition, which I still have on file, and the peak levels were identical so I cannot see how you are able to state that the volume of my audio is undesirably low. I have also downloaded one of the audio submissions that was accepted for this speedy and checked that my peaks were actually higher than it and when I normalised it to -3dBFS its overall volume increased. I therefore cannot possibly see how my submission is rated as being undesirably low.

Hello Bill, how are you??
Thanks a lot for reaching out. First of all I want to apologize on behalf the QC team as we understand that getting rejections could be really frustrating. I was listening to your audio and my perception is that although it does not have room echo, it has a little bit of boxiness, but to my ears it is not that problematic.
In regards to the volume levels, I do think the levels of the audio are very low. I agree with you that the audio is peaking at -3dBFs but the reason for this is that the audio has a really high peak at 0:11, while the rest of the overall volume is really low. This has as a consequence that when you normalize to -3dBFs, there isn't much change in the overall volume of the recording. For next occasions, please try to make sure that the volume of your audio is consistent in order to avoid this kind of problems.
I would make sure to share your case with the team, because even though your audios have the issues mentioned, I think a revision would have done it this time in order to let you manage the situation and get approved for the contest. It is true that sometimes we can be very strict with rejections because your language category is very competitive and we have an amazing pool of talents, of course including yourself.
We appreciate you taking the time to write us and letting us know your thoughts. For this, we will make sure to remove this rejection from your stats in order to avoid getting affected by this matter.
Let me know your thoughts about it and hope you are having an amazing week so far.

Thank you Gabriel,
had I been given the option to address the issue with one section of the submission being louder, due to it being more a dramatic reading than a simple voiceover, I would of course have done so.
This is the third time recently that I have had a submission rejected without the opportunity to revise, and the second where I have raised the matter here and been told that the rejection would no longer effect my stats due to a second opinion on my submission.
While I appreciate the fact that these rejections will not be impacting my stats, the fact that one rejection would have been approved on a second look and the other would have been approved for one issue flagged and a simple resolution to the other means that I have lost income for submissions which did not deserve to be rejected.

Hello Bill!
Sorry for the late reply. I totally get you and I feel really sorry about this situation. I will make sure to discuss this issue with the team to asure you this will not happen again in the future. I understand this could get really frustrating if it has happened several times.
In order to give your cases a proper follow up, I will appreciate if you could send me also the ID or links of the other two projects you were mentioning in your comment. This way, we will make sure to address the situation correctly and make sure you'll get a second chance if there is a minimal revision in your next deliverables.
Hope you have an amazing weekend.
Gabriel
Hi Gabriel,
the other two submissions were 9527D1A9530645D51679 and 842F0FBFA9D4AD5E96DE
I did flag the second one as I was having a real hard time working out how to actually deliver it as the text didn't seem to make sense but I guess that wasn't followed up on as my submission was rejected.
