More complete info needed when quoting for a potential booking
I want to thank the sales and support team for all they do to get us work and suggest something that will help us all.
When asking a talent if they can do a job in a certain time frame, it would be great if we could get as much info about the job as possible. Simply asking if we can do a certain length job can be very misleading. A 20,000 word job done in 5 days sound totally possible at first blush.
But what if it is filled with unfamiliar technical or medical jargon? That will take a lot more time unless one is very well versed in the particular lexicon of the job.
If it is an elearning job, is it long chunks of text or will it need to be chopped up into hundreds of little files? Will these files need to be individually labeled? Will the file names be the typical Sec_1_Part_2_ Male_1_GBrth kind of thing?
If it is the latter, that takes a lot more time or special software to accomplish. At the very least, the best format for the material at that point is to have either a 2 column Word or Excel doc with the file names in one column and the corresponding text adjacent to the name in the next.
And it would be great if there was a way to factor the increase in backend time into our rate. Truly properly done, 1 hour of finished audio in things like elearning can take an extra 3-4 hours to produce on top of the recording time.
So please, get us as much info as you can before coming to us for longer jobs. Some surprises we love! Others, not so much.
