Quite concerned...
I'm really a little concerned with some feedback from QC. Late last night I had a booking - good news is, I was in the studio already, as was my engineer. It was only a small job, so, I paused what we were recording for a major client, and quickly did it.
QC came back with:
- Recording doesn't meet Bunny Studio's quality standards
- Notes: It sounds as if the audio was not recorded with professional equipment. Please ensure you are using a professional microphone and equipment to record properly.
No issues with re-recording, but I have to know what the problem is.
It may sound to QC if the audio was not recorded with professional equipment to them, and that's ok, Whatever the issue, we'll adjust it - but - in a £2 million pound studio that's in use every day, all day, with a resident engineer, myself, bands, groups, and a lot of recording going on - I kinda need to know what the problem is.
The long and the short of it is, equipment wise, you can't get better equipment. Maybe a pot needs adjusting here and there, but, without that feedback, what can we do?
The knock on effect is, your client (And my client) could, and should have had a turnaround of minutes, but, now it's going to take days through being vague. I'm guessing, it's me that will be penalised for this with VB.
Speedies, Bookings, the works, we'd be knocking loads out, if it wasn't for issues like this.
Same equipment, same artist, same engineer, same time frame - yesterdays recordings accepted by our other client.
Keep the standards high VB, but please, if feedback is needed, feed back so we can rectify anything.
Engineer listened to the recording, I listened to it, seems ok. Not my finest work, sure, but, it's $29 for a new studio. Throw me a bone here :-D

Hi Gary,
I want to begin by apologizing for any lack of clarity in the feedback you received! Your concerns are completely understood, and we appreciate your patience and understanding.
In my understanding, it could have been due to making customized adjustments in a larger studio. This can be a bit more challenging, as each person that utilizes it may require specific alterations, and sometimes keeping control of what is changes can be tricky!
We'll gladly help you and clarify the feedback, of course!
To address this issue effectively, could you please share the details of the project for which you received this feedback?
We will promptly assign this post to one of our QC agents who will work closely with you to identify the specific issues present on the audio.
Thank you for bringing this to our attention, and we're committed to assisting you in resolving this matter!
Best regards,
Gabriela Schneider
Hi Gabriela,
It's Project ID : 0054ab6d-892d-4b2d-988b-050430516218
I did submit a help request - but, to no avail.
Listening to the recording - compared with other work done that day - it's the only one with a 'Welsh' accent. Maybe that's the issue :-D
I feel bad. The delay this is causing isn't great for the client. :-(
Guys,
This is now days. This is not how I work, and it's not a delay I expect your / my client to wait for.
Could you please update.
Hi there, Gary!
How do you do?
We've already assigned your post to an agent, they should be replying very soon after analyzing your inquiry!
Our agents usually share samples or cases with the team for a thorough assessment at times, which can cause our reply time to be a while longer than usual.
I'll request that our agent gets back to you whenever possible in this post!
Thanks for your fast response!
Best,
Gabriela Schneider
Hello Gary,
Thank you for contacting us and expressing your dissatisfaction. I've listened to the project and I can notice that the quality differs significantly compared to the projects you have delivered previously.
I perceive that your audio sounds as if it were recorded in a very small space or close to rigid surfaces, creating what we refer to as boxiness. Additionally, it seems like you might have recorded the voice a bit far from the microphone and without aiming directly at it, which further accentuates the problem. Furthermore, it sounds overly filtered and lacks definition in the high frequencies.
Below, I'm sharing two projects you completed earlier, which have good quality and can serve as a reference point:
We apologize for the lack of clarity in the requested review. Hope this helps.
Best,
Steven Cifuentes.
Hi Steven,
Excellent. Many thanks for the feedback.
VO is generally done in a sound booth (The type where no one can hear your screams)
I've recently (As in yesterday) replaced our NT1A mic's as I also picked up on an ever growing 'farness' from the mic. The many forums do comment on NT1A's perhaps not being as durable as they should. Our finding is, in a perfectly climate and dust controlled environment, where they never get moved, they haven't lasted - so - in the field, I can only imagine their lifespan (Ours are a year old).
I'm pleased to say that our new mic's are ridiculously good (It's only when we try something new, do we realise how what we thought was good, was actually bad).
Applied filters have traditionally been noise reduction and normalisation. With our new mic's noise reduction isn't needed, and quiet is really quiet, with nothing to filter. Normalisation is as per the clients request. I think VB want around the '3' mark.
In looking at this task, I can see it's been cleared from the system as client approved, so, I'm unable to re-record.
Going forwards, hopefully future rejection will be minimal.
Regards
Gary
