    Hi Scott!

There are some quality issues in your audio. There's a lot of noise throughout the recording that's masking your voice.

We invite you to review the webinar we hosted on how to control and manage hiss here: https://goo.gl/nlaCvU

    Best,

    Juan

    Hi Scott!

    I agree with Juan Santiago!

The noise is very high and I believe you're using either a noise reduction plugin or a very strong filter that is impacting the overall recording a lot. Check the webinar he shared and I'd also love to know which equipment you're using! It sounds to me that it's digital.

My chain is a Neumann tlm102 into a dbx 286s into a yamaha ag03, so maybe a setting is too high on the dbx, I have them set pretty light but I'll recheck.

Angela and Juan Thank you for the insight, I went back through and found a setting on the dbx I think was causing the issue, Please check this:  https://soundcloud.com/user-889322043/vb-revision/s-8QOXH

    Hi Scott!

The file still has a very high amount of hiss noise. When you're not talking, the noise is much more noticeable. Please try to listen to it using closed-back headphones at a higher volume than you normally would. You should be able to pick it up then.

Checking the gear you have, I see that the Yamaha AG03 is not designed for professional recording. More likely, the noise is being generated by this device. I'm reading here this mini mixer is more designed for streaming of different kinds or scratch recordings. However, the quality of the preamps may not be of the highest quality.

You have an amazing microphone, but I believe the interface is not giving you the power it needs to work. I suggest you take a look at a different interface with better preamps. We created an article recommending interfaces and helping you to choose one. You can read it here: https://help.bunnyinc.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/203362904-Tip-4-Choose-a-good-interface-for-your-needs-

Thanks Angela, I know several vo's that use the mixer and have had no issues , doesn't mean mine is not now creating one, I have 2 other audio-box interfaces for back up, regardless, I contacted an engineer in hopes of figuring out what the issue is, hopefully we can get it resolved this weekend.

    Thank you again

Angela, after a long weekend I think I have the issue resolved, here is a link to a new file:  https://soundcloud.com/user-889322043/crypto-currency-explainer-video/s-C2ynw

Thank you for your time, and helping me with this.

    Hi Scott!

In general I think the audio sounds filtered and over-compressed. What processing are you adding to the recording? You are compressing too aggressively and that is lifting the noise floor and distorting the signal.

    Best,

    Juan

Juan, Thanks for your patience, after seeing what you said on Friday I went back through all the settings on my daw and found that my settings were corrupted, not sure how, I set it and forget it. Anyways after resetting them, I definitely hear what you were describing and think this should be back to where it's good audio.  https://soundcloud.com/user-889322043/mila-new-vo-settings/s-HpkPN

    Hi Scott!

Wow, yes, that sounds much better! Now there's no distortion and over-compression. Your voice still sounds a bit filtered, are you adding any EQ?

    Best,

    Juan

Juan I only roll off a little bass and add just a bit on the high end.

    Hi Scott!

I think you don't need all that crisp in the high end, try bringing it down a bit and see what happens. Also try moving band 3 up to 3Khz, maybe it can help too.

    Best!

    Juan.

    Agreed, here you go: https://soundcloud.com/user-889322043/new-vo-settings-rev/s-RLuZv

It does give it a little more warmth, this is something I've been working on.

    Hey Scott!

That's great! I think in terms of frequency response it sounds much better. Nevertheless, the audio still sounds filtered, so I'm thinking that the problem can be traced to the AD/DA conversion stage. So you are going from your mic into the Yamaha which works as a console, and then go out through the USB into your computer, is that right?

It'd be great if you could try out another interface. Much better if it's a 60V powered one. That should make a change.

Let me know what you find!

    Best,

    Juan.

Juan my chain is mic to dbx286s into a presonus audiobox  to computer ( I took out the yamaha 2 weeks ago, since I wasn't sure if that was the problem)

The settings on my 286 are very minimal, but one thing I have thought about is that I offset my mic about 10 degrees is that possibly what you are hearing.
