Would like feedback on rejection

    Hi Nell!

    Thank you for sharing.

So, I have to agree that I don't hear any room echo. However, there's a high level of hiss noise present in the recording. This hiss starts right as soon as you start talking and you can clearly pick it up when you're silent. There are also several mouth noises and plosives.

Which equipment are you using to record?

    Hi Angela -

Thank you so much for taking the time to review my submission and get back to me - I really appreciate it.

I have to say - I am pretty confused. If there's no room echo present, why was the submission rejected based on room echo? Also, the submission instructions said not to process the audio in any way - the hiss and plosives could certainly be addressed with audio processing, but I was following the instructions.

Here is the equipment I am using:

Mic: AT4050 w/ pop filter and shockmount
    Preamp: CEntrance MicPort Pro
    Room: Professional isolation booth
DAW: Audacity at 16 bit / 44.1 khz (per spec)

If the hiss and plosives are the issue here, I'd be happy to process the file and resend it.
Let me know if there's anything further I can do to resubmit.

    Kind regards,
    Nell

    Hi Nell

Thank you for your patience here.

We have addressed the case with the QC agent that checked for future submissions. However, please keep in mind that we do need the files to be clean without post processing.

The plosives and hiss noise should be fixed right from the source instead of using noise reduction plugins or filters as these degrade the quality of the recording massively when used incorrectly. I suggest you track the source of the hiss by checking at your equipment.

My guess is that the hiss is coming from the signal converter you're using. Keep in mind that the CEntrance MicPort Pro is not an interface or a preamplifier but a low lag signal converter for podcasting and streaming. These pieces of equipment are not ideal for professional voice over applications as they lack the fidelity needed in the preamplifying process and AD/DA conversion. This increases the noise floor and adds extra hiss to the recording.

For professional voice overs, using a good one channel interface is recommended as these are devices especially created for recording. If you'd like, we created an article recommending interfaces you can check out and see if any fits your necessities and budget. Hope this helps!
