Very displeased with rejection reason!
Hi, I just applied for this following project and was met with a peculiar rejection email as read below;
|
'Uh-oh! I'm sorry, but the work you submitted for 9780008159498 (f7974edb-2ab2-4222-b7fe-f77496624668) was rejected by a Bunny Manager due to the following reason(s): Hi- there are some pronunciation issues in your deliverable. |
I've been a professional audio artist and member of the Actors Union, Equity for almost 5 years - Have performed on stages, theatres, and given lectures across the UK, have corporate clients and 30 audiobooks for sale in the UK and the USA... and this is the first time I have ever been pulled up on my pronunciation of the word book?
I am unsure of who is doing the quality control, but I recommend that you look into it as this of type of ridiculous negative feedback serves no purpose other than driving away "audio artists" from other regions and countries.
VoiceBunny very seldom gives me updates or notifications, which I know is a big gripe with my fellow performers, which is why I tend not to use it very much. Following this last email I will have to give further consideration to my involvement with VoiceBunny in the future.

I love your accent!!!! Maybe just maybe this is a case or tomato verses tooomato, where one person prefers the word to be just right/one specific was as part of their desired acceptance rate. Keep submitting as well as providing great reads.
The way you pronounced the word "book" is the way I pronounce it and the way I've heard average British pronunciations of the word. I'm not sure why this was rejected. Great job on your performance by the way!
Thank you both for your kind comments!
Hi Samantha
I was checking and I believe the others are confused because you didn't share your recording. The recording that shows in the project is the one that got approved by our QC team. Your delivery is not made public to anyone except for admins like myself. Would you mind sharing a Dropbox or Google drive link with your recording so we can all pitch in?
Now, I checked yours by taking a listen directly to the project and finding your rejected delivery and it does sound unnatural to me. To my ears, your accent doesn't sound completely English (for example, the word 'birth' sounds quite Australian to me). Now, the word "book" does, indeed, sound a bit forced. The "u" sound is a bit too exaggerated which is different from the approved recording for the project. I invite you to listen to her delivery and compare yours.
Hi Samantha!
Thanks for your message. I have listened to your recording and the word 'book' sounds like you are emphasizing the 'oo' sound as though saying 'buuk'. For words such as 'divergent', 'birth' and 'love', it seems like you are speaking in a Northern English accent, when the project should be in Neutral English. I think this is also where the confusion is coming from for the word 'book'. In Neutral English, it should be pronounced like 'hook' or 'took'. Here is a really good example: https://dictionary.cambridge.org/us/pronunciation/english/book
I hope this helps!
