Looking for feedback
Hi Everyone,
Was hoping to get some light shed on my audition submission. I was told it was rejected because it was over compressed, however, the f/x busses were clear and deactivated, so there was zero processing/effects on the track. I use a Rode NT1 w/ a Focusrite interface and was recorded in an iso room that is fully acoustically treated, I use Reaper as my DAW. Is it the delivery and they just used the "over compressed" as the reason? Or is it something in my editing process? I just split and clip the areas not needed. Thanks for your time and help!

Hi Sebastian,
That track was recorded at 44.1K.
Jim,
Which DAW are you using? Maybe the normalization of your software is adding filtering. Would you mind sharing a recording that has no processing, not even normalization? I'd also suggest you check if your interface has any pads or something that could be making changes.
Hi Angela,
I use Reaper. Here is a Raw Track that I typically use in RX6 to edit/enhance. I just changes interfaces to a Tascam UH-7000, and all of the pads, processing, etc. have been disabled.

Hey Jim,
Sounds much better!
I ran a spectral analysis of the waveforms from your samples, comparing the one from April 20th (left) to this new one (right). Basically, some sort of processing was filtering/deleting everything above 15khz. The current one isn't filtered and contains frequencies well above 20kHz which translates to better sounding recordings. This is just so we can have a visual representation of what we're hearing and isn't exactly scientific, but I hope it helps to bring more clarity to our comments. Remember that software like RX6 can do a lot of processing and degrade audio quality.
Right now my only suggestion would be to lower the volume of breaths and watch out for mouth clicks.
Make sure you re-apply!
-Seb
Hi Sebastian,
I bought the RX6 recently, mainly for the de-breath and mouth clicks. My goal is to process as little as possible. Am curious on why Reaper is filtering when normalizing, But with the new interface I get a good, strong, and clean signal; have found that I do not have to normalize. I appreciate all of the help Angela and Sebastian! Will re-apply!

Hi Jim!
I'm glad we were of help. We were together with Seb when we reviewed your recordings with analyzer and the difference was huge! The last recording really sounds much, much better! Congrats! We look forward to your reapplication!
Thanks Angela,
Have re-applied. Thanks again for your patience and help!
Jim
No problem, Jim! We look forward to your application.
