Rejected Samples

The exact same thing happened to me.

All of my professionally produced demos from a very respected producer were rejected for "quality issues."

I lost all of my liked samples and saw my numbers dwindle down to nothing.

I'm starting to think it might be worth deleting my account and starting over because my new samples hardly show up at all on searches even though I have solid green stats.

    Hi Dave

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this.

In regards to the samples rejected, keep in mind that you can only upload each file once and to one category/purpose only. Any duplicates of the sample will be rejected which could've made your number of ejected samples to pile up.  I am checking some of the 34 samples I shared and all of them are overcompressed and/or limited. The voice sounds even distorted at times and has little to no space with the music that is also playing behind it.

This problem is a constant in the 15 samples I played. The voice sounds way too compressed or as if it was being recorded with too much gain from your preamplifier. Your acoustics are magnificent and I'm sure your microphone is awesome because, frequency wise, the recordings sound rich and full. They're a bit sibilant, but that can be fixed by recording a bit off-axis. I do see, however, that the recording is lacking dynamics and distorts in the peaks.

Would you mind sharing a 100% raw recording? I'd also suggest you reset your preamp's gain and start over. I usually recommend having it no higher than 12 o'clock on your knob. If you can try that and share a new file it would be really good!

    Hi Angela,

Here's a couple of samples that I recorded for your consideration:

The first one is a "raw" recording, using only my TLM103 microphone, recorded through an Apollo Twin Interface, with no EQ at all.

The second one adds slight EQ through the preamp. It's recorded with a setting I labeled "Internally Accepted", because this setting has always been accepted by QC. It will be interesting to know which one of the two is considered the better quality.

With both samples, I'm about 5 inches from the microphone, and they are both normalized to -3db.

    Hi again Angela

There was one question I had above that wasn't answered: - -

If several of my rejected sample demos were favorited, and I remove them, would that affect my stats? In other words, would I lose those favorites?

And, if so, is there a way that my favorite "stats" could be adjusted back to their current standing, even though the samples have been removed?

    Thanks - Dave

    Hi Dave!

Sorry for taking some time to get back to you here. Let me go over both things here

    1. The takes:

I, to be quite honest, like the raw recording much better! It's not sibilant at all and it sounds rich in frequencies. I really like that one. I would just suggest you lower the gain on your preamp as it does feel a bit too in your face as if you're recording a tad too high. The processed recording sound sibilant and bright. I hint you may be adding high frequencies but, from the raw recording, I don't think it's needed.

I have to say that the raw recording sound so good! I really like the sound even though it's a bit too loud. I definitely like it a lot. No noise, no nothing. So good! you definitely have your space + gear all figured out! Congrats!

    2. The removed samples:

Removed samples will, indeed, go away with the favorites it had. This is because the users liked that sample so we can't transfer the favorites to another one. Makes sense?

Also, keep in mind that the favorites don't impact your stats in any way. Favorites are used to allow clients to go back to samples they liked and book the Pro if they want. So, if I'm a client and I'm browsing for voices, I can choose the ones I like, add them to a list and then come back to book a Pro from those voices. A lot of our clients do this to keep track of their browsing as we have so many samples!

Now, even though this happens, the samples will remain visible in the client's favorite list so you don't lose the client's favorite. It won't show in your stats or profile, but it will be available for the client to listen to it. We are working on a better way for this (we know that deleted samples may not be your favorites!)
