    Hi Thom,

Thanks for sharing this sample. There are still two issues which could cause our QC team to reject your submissions:

First, the audio is a bit low in volume. Raise it by 6dB so it's closer to what our clients expect.

Second, there's some audible hiss throughout the recording. It is easier to hear it in between words so maybe the easiest approach would be to lower those parts in your recording. This is easily achieved using a noise gate. However, make sure you don't kill the noise completely, just lower it enough so it's below -60dB.

Please share with us every element in your recording setup so that we can help you find the source of this hiss.

    Hope that helps!

    -Seb

Please let me know what you are hearing in this short sample recorded at -12dB with the floor at -97dB (yes, really). Highly treated isolation booth with 5 inch walls. Totally raw from AT BP-320 mic through dbx 286s into Scarlett Solo with Furman power conditioner.

    Hi Thom,

In terms of hiss, it's ok. Can you send us a quick read? Make sure to record closer to -3dB.

    Hi Thom

I am checking the recording and I do pick up a high level of hiss noise. I have had a bad experience with the dbx 286s so I usually recommend to skip it and go directly into your interface. Would you mind trying that to see if the hiss is reduced this way?

    Hey Thom,

I agree with Angela, have you tried going straight to the Scarlett? In your current workflow, you're essentially going through two preamps, which doesn't help with hiss as it adds up.
