New samples

    Hi Falk!

Thanks for sharing the samples. I found the following problems overall so let me point them out:

    1. The volume is too high. This excess sometimes leads to a loss in the dynamism of your performance so I suggest you review your gain everytime you record. It's always better to record at a lower level and then normalize in your DAW than record with a volume that may be a bit too high.

I also hint that you're using a harsh compression on your recordings for which I recommend tossing away any process you're adding.

    2. There are some plosives. This is caused by recording too near to the mic's capsule or without a pop filter. As not all the potential plosive areas sound harsh, I believe you could be recording too near to your pop filter. I suggest you adjust the distance and try recording just a bit farther. I believe a couple of centimeters will do!

    3. Some of the recordings have a slight room echo. This is not present in all of them, so I'd suggest you try to keep your distance from your mic as consistent as possible.

    Hope this helped!

    Hey Falk,

I agree with Angela, over-compression may not be doing your audios any favors. It might also be that you're recording too close to the mic and that causes plosives to be more noticeable and even cause distortion at times.

Luckily, none of these issue are difficult to fix: I'd say back off the compression, record a tiny bit farther, and record words that may cause plosives at an angle to prevent air from hitting the mic capsule.

    Looking forward to new samples.

    Hello,

thanks for your feedback which makes it now even more difficult for me. To be honest: This was also a test from my site. In general I used three different workflows in the examples. All of them are without any compression, but

1 only EQ is turned on.

2 EQ is turned off but use of RX6 Advanced cleaning Mouth noises and Dialog cleaning

    3 complete RAW

I wanted to test what is excepted by Voicebunny and what not because I have listened meanwhile to hundreds of samples from your list and most of the pros and most booked talents use EQs, some compressions but definitely RX6. Some have a room echo which stands out negatively, mine is in these examples on 0.3-0.6 sec which is industry standard.

I am more confused now about your feedback then before. I understood that the first samples which I use to showcase on other websites where too over-processed for Voicebunny. But the second plain recordings which I have uploaded...?

PLEASE CHECK explainer5.wav again and compare this with

"VoiceBunny voice actor ID 5R20VKK - Sample 91209"

"VoiceBunny voice actor ID 51C56S - Sample 129875"

The examples of this voice actor are good but Sample 129875 looks compressed with EQ, Sample 91209 has very close characteristics to my audio. Gain is correct, loudness correct, etc...

I don't want to look finding a needle in the haystack but I look for answers to enhance my service on the Voicebunny site. If I would have known what happens when changing some sound samples I would have never done that. I will make another fresh recording and will look on all metres like an owl and will send that in addition later.

    Thanks so far,

    Falk

I attached the latest recording "vb-test.wav" now to the google drive. Standard settings applied:

Neumann TLM67, RME Fireface, (Manley Voxbox SWITCHED OFF) - recording with Wavelab PRO9.5

+ Loudness control to EBU R-128 standard

    - no compression, EQ

    - no RX6 cleaning

Let's say: This is a HIT and SAVE ;-)

New sample sounds good! By the way, at what distance are you recording from the mic?

Please remember you'll need to clear out those old samples from the site to prevent the system from banning you.

Also, what you say about different quality levels of samples in our search is right and that's why we're working hard to weed out samples that no longer meet our standards. It's a long process but I hope you'll see that it's for the benefit of both clients and Bunny Pros.

    Cheers,

    -Seb

    Hi Sebastian,

thanks for your feedback. This is a great idea and I hope that you can rise the quality of your voice talents as you can enhance the service of Voicebunny for your clients.

I started working in radio stations in 1999. I learned that 10 cm or less is good for low frequencies but bad for plops and breath noises, 20+ is good for sounds which are natural. So in the end 15-25 cm is what I normally choose, depending on the situation and purpose of voiceover job.

    Best,

    Falk

Ok, I have uploaded the new sample and deleted the other once. I would appreciate when you could reinitiate my account again.

For more samples I will open next week a new threat or keep posting here to let them check by you before I upload anything new to the system again.

    Appreciate your help!
