Speedy Rejected for "Boxiness" - After 20 recordings this month in the same booth??
This morning, I recorded a Speedy in my professional sound booth and it was rejected. This was the reason given:
There is 'boxiness' impacting your recording which makes it sound as if it was recorded in a very small space. Please ensure you record in an acoustically treated environment.
What does that even mean? I have recorded 20 projects for VB in the last month with no quality issues and would like some feedback from the community on this recording. I know my voice can sound different on different days, but I've been on VB for over a year and have never received this feedback. Thank you.

Hi Ericka,
Thanks for sharing your concerns. When we talk about "boxiness" we refer to audio that sounds recorded in a very small space and which usually has a distracting resonance frequency wise.
I've listened to this submission and to your previous submissions and there's definitely a difference in perceived tonal balance. Previous submissions sound a bit brighter and clearer, this one has a bit of a resonance in the mids (around 1kHz), and lows (around 120hz) hence some might find it boxy.
What you said is perfectly true in that every recording is different. Maybe this time your distance/angle to the mic was different or even the way you spoke changed.
Don't be too discouraged by this rejection as you've proven you can submit good audio, it's just a question of consistency.
Hope that clears your doubts,
-Seb
Hi Ericka
I agree with Seb's comments. This recording does sound quite boxy so more likely the volume + positioning of your mic was different than other days. I suggest you try to be as consistent as possible with how you position your microphone towards you and where it's located in your space. Keep in mind that slight angle changes can impact the recording a lot when you are recording in small home studios.
If you added any processing, more likely this is the cause so may want to scrap that process!
Hope this helps and we look forward to completing more projects together.
