Hi,
I've listened to your audition and unfortunately, there is some background hiss throughout which is made more evident by the use of a noise gate (you can hear it "opening" and "closing").
I'd suggest finding what the source of the hiss is and addressing that issue first. It's normally caused by recording equipment, like a recording interface or mic.
Once you've reduced the amount of hiss, you won't need a noise gate and your read will sound more natural and less processed.
Hope that helps,

Hi Jacquelyn
Can you please share the recording you'd like us to review? I'd also like to give you my feedback!
Here is the new recording I would like to be critiqued . We changed from the Shure SM7 to a Blue Bird and the Duet USB interface to a Focusrite 2i4 . Please let me know if this is a good clean recording ??? I hired an audio engineer from the local college that we met at Guitar Center , and he said we are great now .

Hi Jacquelyn
Thanks for sharing! There's little hiss noise now! However, I feel the recording sounds quite processed. Are you using any kind of noise reduction? If you are, can you please share a 100% raw file?
Dear Angela ,
We went to a professional recording studio because our home studio was not cutting it apparently . The owner of the local studio will give us a great rate , so we can get started getting going with VB . Please let us know how we can submit this take and PLEASE let us know if this is acceptable .
warmly , Jacquelyn Liz

Hi Jacquelyn
There are several problems in the recording you shared. Let me point them out so you can also share them in the studio you would be recording.
1. The recording has a lot of hiss noise. I'm not able to say where it's coming from but it's quite noticeable when you talk. It's also present on the silent spaces and it's quite constant so it could possibly be coming from a piece of equipment used.
2. The recording has a little too much gain. This could also be adding some extra hiss noise so I recommend you to lower the preamp's gain around 6dB.
3. There're some room reflections that I believe are impacting the overall sound of your voice. This is directly related with the acoustic treatment of the space so I'd recommend reviewing how the booth is treated. Also, it's important to consider if there are any reflective surfaces (i.e. screens, plywood flooring/ceilings, windows, etc.) and consider covering them.
You could also consider reviewing the mic positioning as it could use some adjustment considering the space's treatment and size.
4. The file sounds too bright and sibilant so I would also recommend recording a bit farther from the mic and off-axis from the capsule. This way, the sound pressure of the higher frequencies will be easier to control.
Would you mind sharing the equipment you're using to record? We may be able to see if something needs some tweaking.
