Thank you for your inquiry, Gemma.

I've checked your account and it's been almost two years since your application was accepted. Notice that we have been strengthening our QC standards, particularly during the last year, so what might have been approved before, may not be approved now.

I must agree with the feedback on your recording; I can hear sound reflections particularly when vowels and the letters N and M are pronounced, hence that feeling of "boxiness" that our QC team has also perceived.

Is there any object close to the microphone that might be causing the reflections? There are different types of surfaces that can be impacting the recording, so you'd have to double-check where they might be coming from.

    Hope this helps!

    Best,

    Oscar

    Hi Oscar

Thanks for your feedback, I think I have located the problem now, there was an object close to the microphone which is not usually there!

Would you mind listening to this recording and let me know if it sounds better?

    Hi Gemma

I checked the recording and it still has several reflections and sounds quite boxy. This is more likely because of inappropriate acoustic treatment of your space. There's also some hiss noise and plosives in the recordings.

I suggest you review how you're treating your recording space. Make sure you don't have reflective surfaces or objects (i.e. glass, metal, computer screens, plywood) uncovered in the area you are recording. Also, I'd suggest you vary your mic technique.

We have an article on acoustic treatment that may be useful for you. You can try some of these techniques while you can invest in some more professional acoustic materials. https://help.bunnyinc.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/203461624-Tip-5-Basic-acoustic-treatment-is-not-rocket-science

Also, would you mind letting us know how you're recording? Share with us the gear you use! If you can, sharing pics of your space would also be helpful.

    Hi Angela

Thanks for your help. I have attached some photos of my voiceover booth (cupboard). I use a Rode NT USB mic and I the walls are covered in acoustic foam tiles.

Could the reflection be coming from my laptop or the script stand?

This is the same set up I have always used so I could do with some help with where I am going wrong. I have been at drama school for the past 18 months which is why I am picking the voiceover work back up again.

    Thanks

    Gemma

Thank you for the pictures, Gemma.

Actually, yes. The laptop and the stand can cause sound reflections. Could you try taking them out or covering with blankets and see if that helps?
