Character work has some key differences that should be accounted for
I've noticed that VoiceBunny seems to have been designed to accommodate projects that involve large continuous paragraphs---projects like product videos, commercials, and narration. It feels like the Characters / Videogames category was added as an afterthought. Character work, however, has differences that are not being addressed in the current system.
- Character scripts are often a collection of many 2-4 word phrases rather than paragraphs. This requires more editing, and thus more work. VB charges a small fee for each file the client requests (because it's more work), but the extra work involved in recording many seperate lines in one file (especially since clients often want multiple takes for each) should be reflected in both Bunny Pro compensation and time allotted for completion.
- Browsing for samples that are relevant to the character you need voiced is hopeless. Pros can only tag samples with one of the two dialects and ages they are allowed to have. Versatile actors may have to list all of their samples under English - North America even though the sample is an elderly Englishman or a middle-aged Scottish man.
- If a client wants a cowboy character voiced, there is no way for them to search or filter to find it. They have to wade through hundreds of miscellaneous character samples and just hope they find one eventually. Because it is less important to most clients that characters sound perfectly native, samples listed as Character / Videogames should be allowed to be tagged as any dialect or age, not just one of two. It would also be helpful if character samples could be indexed by the words in their titles, or else a tag system, so clients can search for specific keywords like "villian" or "pirate".
