We come to you this time bringing you the second interview in our Top Pros series. In this second episode, the great Owen Hammond chats with us about his journey in the VO industry and shares really good advice for all those seeking a career in voice acting within VoiceBunny.

Here’s a short summary of what you’ll hear in our conversation:

What is a challenge for you when it comes to voice acting and juggling your IT management career? How do you handle all of that?

It comes down to time management (…) I figured out how to set up a modular recording studio in my car, so I can record good quality in my car if I have to, so I can take my lunch break to get the work done (…) And the other part is having an understanding family.

Sometimes I sacrifice sleep. It’s not always seamless, I guess.. It takes a commitment. I have a lot of things in my life, but I choose to have them all there. So, it’s constant management of what is the highest priority.

How do you choose which projects to participate in?

When I started with VB I was doing a ton of contests and speedies, so I was basically assessing every single project that showed up (…) Always read the remarks and make sure that it makes sense and seems like something I can do. And in my early days of VB if it was a stretch I’d go for it, and as I worked the platform more, I’ve learned that it works better for both me and VB to really focus on my sweet spot, on projects that resonate with me. (…) So the key is read the comments and be self aware of what I can do well, where my strengths are.
