Boxiness Rejection
I received a message saying the quality of my VO had ‘boxiness’.
I record all my VO’s from an acoustically treated professional booth from Studio Bricks which cost over 12500$ and record with Sennheiser MKH 416 on a D&R console. I’ve done over 600 VOs from this booth from Audiobooks to TV commercials for Nestle to product videos for Logitech.
Just today I finished up a TV commercial for Nokia and SegmentNext.
How can the sound be Boxy and how can you reject my work saying I need to acoustically treat my room?

Hi Wes,
Unfortunately, there are some unwanted resonances in your recording. Some lower frequencies are overemphasized which leads to the impression that it was recorded in a very small space. While studio bricks are a great starting point, I've seen a lot of cases where acoustic treatment had to be added to reduce these issues.
There are also other issues with the read. At 0:44 there's a noise, maybe the mic/mic stand was hit. Then, there's also noise at 0:50 after 'next year'.
Lastly, remember that for contests we only need you to read the auditioning script and can't accept the full script.
Hope that helps.
