Hi, there. I submitted an audition for Backup For Global Engineering (Contest) and my audition was rejected. I was told:
Your recording doesn’t follow the instructions provided by the client: The timing specified in the brackets for each sentence.
I've attached my original audition here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/rst3fprf649bpik/CARLY%20RUSH-Backup%20for%20Global%20Engineering-AUDITION.wav?dl=0. At first, I thought it was rejected because I started the audio file with .5 seconds of silence at the beginning (per usual VB instructions), instead of the 2 seconds requested by the client because it throws the timing off. I was told by Oscar Pena that I did the correct thing by only putting .5 seconds of silence at the beginning.
I see now, when I go back and look at it again and add the 2 seconds of silence at the beginning, that I was off by some tenths of seconds on some of the sentences. Is this why I was rejected? If so, I will be sure to be much for careful in the future!

Also, in all the years I've been with VB, I've always been given a few minutes to resubmit on Contests if there was a problem, but I wasn't on this one. Oscar told me that it was up to the discretion of the agent whether I'm allowed to do this or not. Is this a new rule, or did I just always catch an agent that was able to give me time to resubmit my contest audition? Thanks for your help. I just want to know what to expect. Thank you very much! Carly Rush
Hi Carly,
Thanks for sharing this case. I'll review it with my team, as we consider that type of sync a requirement for final reads and not for an audition. We've removed this one from your stats.
Thanks so much, Sebastian. I just want to clarify that:
1. I did the right thing by adding the .5 seconds of silence at the beginning (per VB's ususal rule) as opposed to the 2 seconds the client asked for on my audition. I was wrestling with which of those to do.
2. I can't expect to be given the opportunity to resubmit immediately when there is a problem with an audition, that it is at the discretion of the agent reviewing the audition.
Thanks so much!
Yeah, in terms of rejections it's up to the discretion of the agent. We usually send revisions for errors you can fix quickly (a misread word, you read the whole script or a small editing issue of some sort). For issues like room echo, hiss and not following directions (regarding tone, pace, specific pauses, etc...), rejections are more common as these issues will take longer to fix or the instructions weren't followed and the project will be delayed if the client selects that audition.
This also applies for most speedies.
Hope this clarifies that issue a bit more.
