Quality Control - Nonsense
Hi,
I've been working in this business for 10 years. I work for a lot of big clients. All day long we are recording here at Cochapacha Producciones for huge companies, TV Ads, Radio Ads, all sorts of audio projects.
With VoiceBunny I get rejected projects because I have "reverb" or "boxiness" or " Overprocessed" files.
I work with the best tools. I know what I'm doing...Protools 2019, Avalon, Sennheiser, Izotope RX Advanced.
Sometimes I the very same day Quality Control says "Congratulations! Perfect!" and the next project "Tips for Acoustic Treatment". It's just non sense.
I'm really getting exhausted of this ridiculous QC rejections. The files sound amazing.

Hi Ricardo
Can you share with us some recent example of a rejection with which you disagree? So we can take a closer look at the files and give you a more accurate answer.
Kind regards,
I just signed in at VoiceBunny and was wondering about the quality control as well. May I ask, how you listen to files? Some of my demo files have been rejected, some have been approved. Funfact: The quality is the same for all my uploads. ;)
And: As soon, as the sound is fine (even if compressed): Why not using it as a demo for clients? These samples have been aired in German, Austrian and Swiss TV for months, but for you the quality is not good enough?! You should reconsider your requirements. ;)
Exactly. I mean one of my best samples was rejected by QC. It was aired months by WARNER CHANNEL on Prime Time. It was an LG TV SPOT. So... Its really frustrating to see this happening.
Hi all,
Regarding samples, the reason why we reject produced samples is because that's not the quality that you're gonna deliver to the client. We want clients to receive the same quality as they chose and we've found out quite a few Pros record a very good sounding sample, mixed, produced and ready for air, but when it comes to a VB project, they submit vastly inferior sounding audio. Also, produced samples tend to under-emphasize the voice, so having loud music or sound effects is not recommended.
This is not something we've just come up with, it's reflected on the most effective samples we have on the platform. Even for the most popular Pros, the clients prefer (and book more often) samples which are not produced.
Another common issue is that the same Pros with the same equipment & studio deliver different sounding audios. Some voiceovers can be louder so the room acoustics come into play a bit more. In other cases they record in the same space but the processing degrades audio quality. For example, a noise gate, noise reduction or a even a compressor will sound different in every recording.
Lastly, rest assured the whole team has the same listening conditions and equipment so that's not an issue.
Just my polite $0.02 worth, there are inconsistencies in the approval / non-approvial process. I have gone from top 1% to bottom 30ish% because of it. I almost walked away from VB, but then I decided to take a deep breath and start submitting more samples. When I did that, they were all rejected. When I called you on it, they were approved.
Because of these inconsistencies, I am willing to bet that you are loosing some of your best Pro talent. Also, great talent is not producing VOs for you because they've been dropped to the bottom of the pile. I know... I was a VB Rockstar until this started happening. :)
I've always liked working with y'all. You're great people! But the inconsistency is frustrating, and ultimately bad for The Bunny.
FYI QC revisions do not affect those booking stats and neither do samples, those stats are mainly affected if a client rejects one of your projects.
To clarify, it was not a sample that was rejected, it was a job. They liked another Pro's version better, and y'all got me on the inconsistent QC.
They are STILL inconsistent! I am having the same issues. I replied to 2 different auditions at the same time. Recorded both within moments of each other and the 2nd was rejected for "boxiness and overprocessing" I was the SAME AUDIO as the other that was accepted. Very difficult to explain that one.
Hello.
I just had a submission rejected. I was told I had a "room echo, background noise, and a room reflection" issue. I checked my sample, made sure it was clean before releasing it, and that it sounded no different than other samples I've heard that have been accepted. I listened and listened and heard none of those issues that's been talked about. The thing is, I've done projects before with VB here without a problem and everything had been successfully submitted. But I have better equipment now and somehow a submission was rejected? I'm puzzled could it be the quality person's equipment be having issues of its own?
Sorry guys, you really have to check your "quality control" departement. What are you working with, freeware like "Audacity"?
Where and with what are you listening to the samples? PC Speakers for 9,99€?! You rejected a sample (which was online for more than a year, so one can guess with which speed you´re working ;) ) with the following comment:
"There is audible room echo (reverberation) impacting your sample. Please ensure you record in an acoustically treated space. If you already have acoustic treatment, it may not be adequate."
Well, ehm, no. There ist no room echo for this clip has been recorded in one of Germanys biggest studios with technique, you may dream of. Sorry, but this i ridiculous. Let me ask you a serious question: Are your collaborators professionals? I mean, did they study audio engeneering or something similar? As some other people told you before here: It´s not the samples, it´s your staff and your (maybe minor?!) equipment. Or both, I don´t know. You can erase all the samples you think sounding "not properly". I´ll do some recordings unter the blanket with my iphone and will upload them to you. Happy new year.
Please be so kind and tell us, which gear you´re using at VB. Speakers, software, room. I´m really curious. Andy maybe tell us something about the qualification of your QC, too. Are these people working as professionals?
I really loved the people I used to work with at Bunny studios, and I am sad that I am no longer a VO pro on their platform. That said, the reason I left was because of a complete and frustrating inconsistency in their QC. And, I hate to say it, but I think many of their QC people are unqualified. I have an enviable sound chain, and have recently worked with top international brands who remain with me partially due to my quality standards. On VB I was constantly being told I was over-processed (among other things). I really feel it was because the QC folks hear so many poor quality recordings that a good, clean, unprocessed signal from high-end gear sounds overproduced to their ears.
I have said. this before, but high-end talent have jumped ship because of this. Clearly it is not resolved.
Markus, I think (and VB folks, tell me if I am wrong) that they are remotely hired. I don't know what standards they are held to.
Maybe it´s been too hot in Spain and some sweat ran into the headphones?! 😅 Sorry, but it´s too funny. In the end I´m not making that much money with VB, so who cares. But apparently they´re fu..... it up with a lot of pros, which is sad.
Hi Markus,
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and using this space.
How about you send us the link to that project so we can have a closer look at it for you?
Hey Jonathan! Thank´s, but no thank´s. How about checking your QC issues internally? The sample you rejected is fine. If you disagree: Let it be. As you´ve read here several times by several people: Professionals are wondering about you rejections. There´s two possibilities: All these professionals are wrong or... you are wrong. Check it out. What I found out here listening to some other samples is: Concerning German, you don´t have exclusively pros here. Some are semi-professionals speaking dialects. That´s something, you should take care of. But that´s just a suggestion. ;) Happy new year to all collegues here and to all at VB!
Alright, Markus. Thank you for your comments, we'll definitely take them into consideration to improve our work.
In this case, we wish you and your loved ones a happy new year as well :D

So you guys reject my first one for having white noise in background. Then I apply a second time with the silences in place, and I get rejected AGAIN because there's "silences in between words/sentences". That was what I did to GET RID OF the background noise in the first place! But you want me to "use fades" which would give the exact same effect anyway! What difference whether I fade in and out or silence in between words/phrases to prevent the white noise you complained about in the first place. Silencing is cleaner. Fading in and out disrupts the flow and makes it obvious I've had to retake bits of script. I believe that if I did so, you would STILL reject it because "I'm fading in and out, disrupting flow and quality of the script". Clients would then have more reason to be unsatisfied with the work.
Sometimes I wonder who is judging these and what speakers you guys are using to listen to the clips with...No matter what I or other rejected applicants do in good faith, it's never seemingly good enough for being listed on this particular site's books.
I am revising as we speak which basically means I have had to re-record the whole thing again from scratch. I am not fading in and out as that can potentially sound just as bad.
Like the pros above have said, I have had previous jobs using the same equipment and editing technique as above, including an Audible audiobook, which passed with no problems, so why do you still think your clients won't accept the same quality?
With all due respect guys, what do you want from me!?
Sorry if I sound p***ed but I'm getting frustrated with getting rejected for doing what I and potential clients feel makes for a perfectly decent, broadcastable file.
Hello D.J.!
Thanks a lot for reaching out. I understand sometimes it could get really frustrating when we are doing things in good faith as you mention and our work gets rejected. Please, in order to be able to provide you with feedback and help you, I will appreciate if you could attach the link and files of the project or projects you are referring to. In that sense, I could understand better what happened in this case :).
Hope you are having an amazing weekend so far and we are really sorry for any inconveniences.
Bests,
Gabriel
Hi Gabriel.
Here is my most recent audition sample for Bunny Studio:
https://1drv.ms/u/s!Al1s02ZV6SS1ljCE56ulYLvVUzo6
Before this one, my previous one was rejected for having mouth noises.
So I finetuned it by subduing the mouth noises as best I can, literally picking the recording apart to do so, turning the volume down just on the 's's, 't's and plosives. Still got rejected.
Thanks for reviewing.
Kind regards,
David.
Hello David, how are you??
Thanks a lot for sending the audio to review it. Actually it doesn't sound bad at all to my ears, there are indeed some plosives but I think this issue could be easily fixed. You could try using a high pass filter cutting around 80-100Hz to remove this issue.
Please send me your revised audio to see if it is ok to go so you could submit your application again :). In the meantime, I would highly appreciate if you could send me the link of your last application project you submitted. This way, I can check it out with the team and see if there is anything else before telling you to resubmit.
Best,
Gabriel
Hi Gabriel.
The link above is the most recent application audio I made.
There is no link to actual application project now, but it would've contained the same recording anyway.
Sorry.
Kind regards,
David.
Hello David, sorry for the late reply!
Okay that's fine. As I mentioned, the only issue that might be a problem are the plosives present in your recording. The audio could benefit if you use a high pass filter cutting around 80-120Hz. Please make sure to do so when submitting this new application. If you want to send me the audio before re-submitting formally through the application system please feel free to do so. That way, we can double check the issue has been managed correctly :).
Hope you have an amazing week.
Gabriel
Hi Gabriel.
I'll be more than happy to send you the file before submission.
Thank you for looking into this for me.
Kind regards,
David
Hello David!
Of course! Please keep me updated :).
Have an amazing weekend.
Gabriel
Hi Gabriel.
Exactly what I predicted has happened. I cannot submit a file to you in the hope that you’ll respond before the deadline comes up. There’s a limited time for me to submit the application and by the time you get to respond with feedback, they say I didn’t submit it in time or because I didn’t accept the project until getting the response, I get rejected for being slow with delivery.
Hello David! How are you?
I apologize for this situation. However, I'm a bit confused. We haven't received through this thread any audio in order to check it, so, in case I'm missing something, please pardon me and I would really appreciate if you point me out what I'm missing.
Also, could you kindly explain me which project are you looking forward to submit an audio for? I'm a bit confused here as well. I thought at first we were talking about the application in order to be accepted into our platform and start working with us. If that is the case, we do treat our applications as regular projects in order to give a sense to aspiring pros on how things work if they get accepted. Thus, it is normal that this time limits are stablished during the application process. However, my idea was that you could just send the audio through this thread before starting the whole process. After doing this, once you start the application procedure, you would have already reviewed the audio with me.
If that is not the case, and you are already accepted in our platform, and you are looking forward to submit an audio to an actual real project (lets say a Speedy), it makes totally sense the time limit that is being stablished and for this I will encourage you to submit the audio as soon as you can to avoid being rejected for not completing the project on time. This way, in case it gets rejected or sent for a revision for QC matters, we can check it out here to discuss if there are issues to be solved.
Let me know if this makes sense to you and I apologize for any confusions or misunderstandings.
Hope you are having a great weekend.
Gabriel
Hi Gabriel.
I last sent a link to my audio on this thread for review end of April, before the deadline ran out. Hence my point. I understand you may not be aware of when that deadline is etc.
In theory I have no problem submitting links on this thread to you at any time. However, this only works if it’s the same project text being assigned to me for my application. I noticed that sometimes the text is different as well.
So situation would be (hypothetically), I submit an audition script to you, on this thread, for review, from a project which came in when I reapplied. Deadline runs down and it gets rejected by the time you say what I need to do to edit it. I reapply but then the next project is a different script to the last one. That’s the potential problem I face here.
Hope this sorts out a bit of your confusion.
Thanks
Kind regards,
David
