Acceptable editing tips
I have noticed a lot of posts about "Hiss" room noise etc. In one post the staff member showed a bunny pro how to use noise reduction for their recording, yet I have had samples rejected for using noise reduction filters. I understand that I am not allowed to use compression, limiters and equalization plug-ins, but what is allowed? I am new to VO and am using a small treated recording space, a laptop with Audacity, and a Tonor Pro-Condenser Microphone with boom arm, shock mount and a pop filter. I know its not the best microphone but I have been booked on other sites for work using it. Can someone please clarify what I am allowed to do to edit submissions? Ie: Can I edit out breaths using "insert silence?" Can I use "Noise reduction" and if so what are acceptable settings? Is -3dB the only allowable normalization setting?
I want to be able to place more samples on my profile and build a career on VoiceBunny and am just looking for some tips using the product that I have. I cannot afford at the moment to spend 500 dollars or more on sound equipment.
Thank you

Hi Steven,
We usually recommend no processing aside from normalization. We do request a well-edited file (no heavy breaths, mouth clicks, noises) with proper use of fades and crossfades. In most cases, unless you're really well versed in specialized software, noise reduction will also degrade the quality of an audio file, especially in high frequencies. If you have noises it's better to address those issues at the source. Depending on your recordings, a bit of corrective EQ (and high pass filtering) could be beneficial and they don't tend to degrade the audio the same as noise reduction.
We also recommend normalizing to -3db to prevent any possible clipping when converting to other formats and to present our clients with a consistent volume when showcasing samples.
Hope that helps.
