Hi Kaitlyn, thanks for sending your sample.
I found some things you could work on:
1. Background noise, although you try to fix it with noise reduction or gate plugins, it's something you can still hear when your talking. You might want to tackle that problem right from the recording stage rather than fixing it in your DAW.
2. The plugin you're using is a bit abrupt with the audio, you shouldn't have that much difference between the gaps between your dialogue and the actual voice.
Please try to fix that and send us a new sample so we can help you get the best quality.
Regards
Hi Kaitlyn!
As Johnatan has correctly noted, there's an issue with background noise. If I had to guess, I'd say your interface is way too hot: meaning the gain setting used is too high, hence the noise floor printed to the recording captured not just your voice, as one can almost "hear the air" hitting the microphone's capsule.
Go back to the drawing board and choose adequate gain settings in your recording equipment (along with the best mouth-to-mic distance combo). Try recording empty takes just fiddling with the gain knob and choose the lowest setting possible in which your voice can be heard clearly, then normalize the audio to -3dBFS in your DAW. The goal is to hear your voice and keep the noise floor as quiet as possible.
We're looking forward to hearing from you again!
