    Hi Casey,

We're happy to help you improve in your amazing work.

Thanks for your samples, I'm picking some boxiness and some editing issues, for that I might have a few notes:

    1. Do you mind sharing with us your recording setup? Maybe with some pictures of your equipment and recording environment.

    2. I'm picking some editing issues between phrases, some noticeable pops. Those are easily fixable, please make sure you are using crossfades between the phrases, that way you will avoid the editing pops appearing in your deliverables.

    Hope this helps!

My recording environment consists of my closet. The towel is covering a wall to provide soundproofing.

Microphone is a Samson MTR101a fed via XLR cable into an M-Audio M-Track connected to my MacBook Air via USB.

    Hi Casey

Thank you for sharing your recordings and pictures with us. Considering this, I believe the boxiness present in your recording is a mix between the space where you're recording in and the mic's frequency response.

Clothes are one of the best and cheapest acoustic treatment options for home studios, so I wouldn't tell you to change the materials. However, I'd recommend repositioning it in the space to ensure no other surfaces (i.e. your computer, the shelves, etc.) are generating reflections that impact your recording. If you have a corner or maybe can get your hands on a smaller stand that you can put on a shelf and accommodate the clothes around it, it's worth a try.

Regarding the microphone, in my experience, Samson is not built as professionally as one would expect for voice-over applications. Since they tend to be on the cheaper side, they sometimes don't work well for all purposes, spaces, and types of voices. I'd recommend trying a different microphone solution that can give a fuller, better-distributed sound. Considering your voice tone, I'd recommend you to take a look into the Blue Spark and the AT2025. They're mid-range price-wise and are great solutions to get started. It could also be worth considering looking into another interface that can provide better preamplifiers that provide better levels of gain. You can look into the Focusrite 2i2 and the Presonus Audiobox. In the end, it all comes down to trying different mics out and testing which combination works best for your space and voice characteristics,

    Hope this helped!
