I can’t tell if my ears are getting pickier or if there are issues with my audio- can someone take a listen?

Hi, so there is a difference, I'm actually happy you caught it!

It's a minor one tho, could be EQ, but also could be processing applied to your audio.

The most recent version sounds a bit thinner than the one from a week ago, which sounds better to me.

Is there something you did differently this time? EQ, Noise Gate, recorded further from the mic?

But for the most part, your work is amazing, kudos!

Great! Thanks :) I started adding a slight low rolloff for speech to help with my plosives, and the lower rumble in my tone.  I listened to the 2 side by side and couldn’t tell a difference. I must have played it 200 times, and didn’t think that was the problem.

I’m wondering if it could also be the height of my microphone?  I did change that recently. Can you listen to this audio and compare it to the NTT one above?

Both have the slight (and I do mean slight) EQ but I recorded the one above with the microphone at a higher level. (I had dropped it trying to fix a separate issue).

I’m also standing closer to the microphone, as I thought that I needed to since I always have to normalize and it brings up my room tone.  I might need to go back to standing a bit farther away from the mic and turning the gain up a bit more.

Here the same file completely unedited (just removed a breath and pasted room tone at beginning and end) https://soundcloud.com/user-375739838/geers-unedited   I honestly can’t hear that the EQ is making a difference in the sound of the voice- other than eliminating the Plosives.  can you?

I REALLY don’t want it to be the EQ lol.  I know its supposed to be flat EQ, but the truth is I still have a problem with plosives.  I’m literally editing every single plosive with the envelope tool and its significantly increasing my time spent on a project.  I KNOW its a performance thing, but I don’t know how to fix it! Ive tried standing farther away, but then I have to increase the gain and have issues with room tone.

So, it's not the EQ, you're good on that end.

Maybe it's the height, any chance you can try it as before?

The thing is, it's not bad audio, it's like comparing 4 vs 4.5, both are really really good.

I think you should focus a bit more on plosives, placing the mic at a slight angle, the pop filter, the distance, that's something to work on, and even then, plosives are not that bad either.

You do have an amazing sound right now, and it seems like you really know what you're aiming for because not everyone will be thinking about the room tone coming up when normalizing.
