Hi Will, thanks for reaching out.

I'm glad to hear you have a dedicated recording space, way to go!

Do you mind sharing with us a new recording? That way we can evaluate your quality and help you with your situation.

    Cheers.

    Hi Will,

Another VO guy here, not a VB quality control person, so take my comments with a grain of salt. It sounds quite good to me, though at the end where there is a second or two of silence, I thought I detected a hint of hum or noise. I didn't really notice it during your read.  Great delivery, btw.

    Best regards,

    Joe Brown

Thanks Joe, I think you're right. It's quite faint, but I think I shuffled a bit right at the end - oops!

    @Johnatan, what are your thoughts?

I also had this sample rejected recently saying they could hear an echo on the take - but I just don't hear it. Could you shed some light? https://clyp.it/ezh430qn

    Hi Will,

I don't hear what I would call echo, but I do hear what sound like very close order reflections - only a few milliseconds delay - such as off the desk, copy stand, or nearby hard surface, possibly even from the computer screen itself. You might try angling any surface (such as the computer screen or copy stand) in such a way that reflections are directed away from the microphone.

My own studio had the same issue, so now there are towels covering the work desk in front of me, and the computer screen is angled a bit so any reflections from that screen are absorbed by nearby soft materials.

Maybe post a snapshot of your workspace here so VB QC can see your setup and offer and suggestions about potential problems they might see.

Hope that helps. Great read and your space sounds basically very good to me,

    Joe B.

    This is really amazing!!

First, let me apologize for taking so long to give you my answer, I usually try to get back really fast.

Now, the first recording is very good, great to see Joe's input, was on point.

Regarding the rejection, once again, Mr. Joe is totally right, that could fall under the lines of boxiness, which are those early reflections, not too long to be called room echo, yet they're present and affecting your audio. Why don't you go ahead and try Joe's solution there, sometimes surfaces could bring that up without you noticing. Sometimes those reflections aren't as bad, but when compression is applied, they do come to the surface, so it's a little bit of taking care of the acoustics from the beginning, and also experimenting a bit with post, although, you know we don't suggest using compression on the recordings.

    I really hope this helps.

Thanks Johnatan. I've angled my screen away from my mic now so hopefully that solves the problem.

Would you say it's still audible there?

Sorry for the delay, this one I would approve during QC, good job Will!

Thanks for not giving up in the process.

    @ Will de Renzy-Martin

I see you are using Clypp for your voice recording.  I have tried Audacity and Wavepad Sound Editor but my laptop gives me a error message on both programmes.  Is there any possiblity for you to give the steps you've taken to set it up before recording until you can do the playback on how it sounds please.  Regards, Nicolette
