Boxiness Rejection

Hello! Thank you very much for your time and effort! :-)

This audio sample indeed comes with unwanted acoustic resonance that sounds like you've recorded this in a cardboard box or something :-( Now, let's examine your recording booth to see if the following items are treated:

    • Ceiling & lighting fixture
    • Glass window(s)... treat with thick acoustic foams please
    • Walls (Your mic is not set up very close to the wall, or worse yet, at the corner, ... is it?)
    • PC monitor screen (please tilt the screen slightly so that reflected sound won't be picked up by the sensitive mic)
    • Floor (please make sure it is well-carpeted)

So I believe it has more to do with room acoustics and microphone placement than the types of equipment used. Please feel free to post a set of studio-settings-photos for us to analyze better.

Thank you!! I hope things work out for you :-)

    Kind regards,

    Oki

    Hello Joao,

Another VO guy here who enjoys participating in the community. I hear the boxiness that VB is referring to as well. Oki had a lot a good suggestions and I concur that your equipment is likely not the problem - I think it's all about the room and reflections off surfaces around you.

One suggestion: if you have your computer keyboard (or laptop) on a desk in front of you, I've found it helps to cover that hard surface with soft material (towel or blanket). And Oki's suggestion of tilting the computer screen - or turning it to the side somewhat - can really help prevent sound reflections from reacing the microphone.

One question: at what distance do you face the microphone?

    Best regards and good luck,

    Joe Brown
