Application Rejection question
To whom it may concern,
I have recently applied as a Pro and have been dennied based on 2 points. I would like to further undertand and request clarification and reconsideration due to the fact that I have one more chance to apply.
he only editing and processingI did was to removed some anomolies and adjust for pacing as well as normilation to -3db and the noise floor came in at -74db, without any noise reduction or compression.
1 - The read was undesirably flat or monotone.
2 - There is mid-high level of white noise (it was suggested that some comppression might help)
Item 1- The read was undesirably flat or monotone.
First, the notes project specified they were looking for a voice that was:
- Natural and conversational
- Friendly, yet professional
- Not sales-like
Granted there is a note regarding "energetic" in the script but it also says "interesting and fluent". All things pointed to a less dynamic read than is apprently being asked for.
In an actual client "job" we do our best to interpret what the client is looking for and povide a read and then we would get more direction or clairty on the desired results, this does no happen during the application process. If I you wanted a more energetic and dynamic read then I am more than capable (with 23 years acting experience and 60 hours of VO training and multiple published VO works). I clearly misinterpreted the use the words "conversational, fluent, non-salesly" and gave them too much weight.
Item 2 - There is mid-high level of white noise (it was suggested that some comppression might help)
Firstly, this file Sent is at a peak of -3db with a noise floor of -74db without any processing. Any "white noise" would have been removed with a very modest noise reduction and compression. I would have likely equalized as well depending on the overall nature of the "true" desired result. however, it clearly states in the below article that "no compression" be applied. What is right?

So, with all this bing said, I am thoroughly convinced that I can produce everything that is required and desired but feel the lack of any opportunity to make adjustments during the application process is unfair and I would be very grateful for the opportunity to resubmit for this file , adjusted for the provided feedback.

Hi, Mitchell!
Thank you so much for reaching out! We appreciate your effort and trying to fulfill the requirements as per Bunny Standards.
English (North America) is the most competitive and toughest language. Less than 2% of applying talents make the cut in overall terms. This is to address the reading tone and intention as was noted in the review. Remember that your audition project is no small task: Bunny Studio is the client right then.
It is in fact a little flat for what audition projects usually are. Additionally, the white noise issue is not the worst we've heard but that noise floor needs to be -90. We previously held other guidelines for deliverables, but since our clients' demands evolve and change sometimes on a daily basis, we need to adapt to change as fast as possible too. I wouldn't recommend compression (which can help sometimes depending on the type of comp you use) due to the fact that white noise can be amplified as per the compressor's working logic in most cases. What I'd do is to use a Noise Gate at a discrete level instead:
It would be very wise to check your equipment and test for the right levels, which won't print as much hiss. Usually, an ideal tracking level would print a signal of around -9 dB to -6B so that you can normalize the waveform and apply the gate if necessary.
I will let our Bunny Managers know of your intention to re-apply which you'll be to do once we can approve a new sample that follows these recommendations: just go ahead and upload new material fo revision on this thread =)
Hope to hear from you soon!
