Question about rejected contest submission

Hi Carly, thank you for reaching out.

After reviewing the project, we found out that you got a rejection, here's the feedback:

    - Your recording is still compressed (just at a lower volume level). It\'s affecting the dynamics and quality of the audio.

Unfortunately, this rejection will remain on your stats.

Hi, Johnatan.  That's strange because I didn't put any compression on it at all.  All I did was record like I always do, then normalized it to -3.  So, I'm confused about the compression.  I recorded a contest entry today and did not receive a rejection.  The only difference between the two is that with the one where I was rejected, I recorded earlier in the morning when my voice was deeper, lower, and more resonant.  Could that be what you're hearing?  Or, maybe I was too close to the mic on the one that was rejected?  I've attached the two files.  The one you say has too much compression is the ODEC CVD Billing, and the one that was accepted today (recorded later in the day) is MeME d - Calibration.  Please, help me solve this mystery.  Could I have the rejection removed since I did not add any compression?  Thank you!

    Hi,

I got curious and had a listen to Carly's audio files. In both files, I did not find any notable characteristics associated with compression.

However I hear dynamics (loudness) somehow being artificially maneuvered ... Is this a noise gate, a multiband dynamics processor, or a hardware channel strip?

Just me & my curiosity ;-) Thank you

    Best regards,
    Oki

Oki, the only thing I did was normalize to -3 on both...no processing. And, I don't know what a hardware channel strip is. I'm concerned because I don't want my audio to get rejected, again, not knowing the cause. I might have to change mics.

    Hi Carly,

I honestly think your mic is OK ... :-)

... but may I know the brand & model of the microphone you are using?

I'm asking this because some USB mics these days come w/ built-in 'sound enhancement' features such as noise gate, noise reduction, etc.

    Thank you

    Best regards,
    Oki

Oki, it's an Electro-Voice RE27N/D.  The only artificial loudness is the normalization to -3.  Thank you for your interest in helping me.

My apology for this extremely delayed reply :-(((

I honestly don't think these audio entries have flaws for VoiceBunny to reject.

By the way, I am curious as to what your room actually sounds like ;-) ... Would you mind recording a 30-second silence of your room? I'm looking into the files you've uploaded with Wavelab Pro 10, and it looks like nothing I've ever seen before... especially the silent part. Thank you! ;-)
