8 tips for Effective Samples that help you stand out!
Samples are short audio clips meant to show your skills as a voice actor. They allow you to show your quality standards, versatility, and range for potential clients.
Samples are crucial for getting you more client Bookings, as they show clients what to expect from you if they decide to book you for their project.
Here are some tips to upload samples that can increase your client booking chances:
1) Suggested length: 15-30 sec long.
If they are shorter than that, the listener won’t get to hear your voice enough. If longer, then they become tedious to listen to.
2) Keep them varied to showcase your range and versatility.
If you’ve done the voice of a villain for a video game, an e-learning tutorial, or a hard sell radio ad, by all means, upload them all! The more varied samples you have, the more likely you can get booked for future projects looking for similar skills. If you would like to record more varied samples, you can use our handy scripts.
3) Each sample should show one purpose and style.
Uploading clips that have a mix of two different ads with different delivery styles isn’t recommended. Upload each voice style as a separate sample and mark its purpose and tag it with its own unique keywords.
4) High quality with clear sound.
Make sure that even if your sample has background music, your own voice has to sound very clear, and should be recorded with high-quality equipment. Here is a reminder of our quality standards.
5) It should convey a complete idea.
Samples that consist of short sentences or single words repeated over and over will not help showcase your delivery style and skill. They can also be rejected by our quality control team.
6) Upload samples to match ALL the dialects and ages/genders you mention in your profile.
If you can do French-Canada and French - France, but you only have samples for French - Canada, that means your profile won’t appear for any client looking to book a Pro for French- France.
7) Tag all your samples so that clients can find them easily.
We have suitable keywords to tag your sample with. Tags are a game-changer because, with them, you’re helping clients find samples like yours.
8) Upload as many samples as possible.
We recommend uploading at least 10 samples for every dialect, age, and gender you have in your profile. Also, the more competitive a language is on our platform, the more samples you will need to appear in our search engine.
