This file was a submission for a backup. A revision was requested for too much hiss. The RMS level of the room tone in the Dropbox file is -76 dB with the maximum peak normalized to -3.2 dB.
Listen to all three auditions. One of them has very low RMS audio, another has more background noise than mine. The rms level of the room tone in the accepted audition is -79 dB with the maximum peak normalized to -3.2dB. The only difference between my two files is 3 dB of noise reduction.
My question is how loud is too much hiss? I don't use a noise gate so some hiss is natural in equipment. My mic is a Rode NT1 run through a 3 foot Mogami Gold XLR cable to a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 (2nd gen) interface.

Hi Tom,
Thank you for reaching out.
After reviewing your Dropbox file, we found that it should've been approved.
Also, as long as you can keep the hiss levels the same as the dropbox file, you should be fine, it is actually a good recording.
A small suggestion, you could try and use a mild de-esser to work on some sibilance, other than that, it is pretty good!
