New Audio setup - does it work?

    Hi Bernd,

    Thank you for reaching out.

It seems like your audio is in stereo, and it is present only on the left channel.

Do you think you can make sure to send a mono file as requested?

    Hi Johnatan,

sure! I overwrote the files in my dropbox; please find the new files under the same links.

    Thank you very much, Bernd.

Definitely the AKG is working better for you, it is capturing less room tone than the AT.

I'm a bit curious, do you think you can upload a sample narrating something instead of singing?

    Hey Johnatan,
thanks again for the reply. Here are different wavs with different positions and gains (At2020 only; AKG should be same gain on all recordings)

    Hi Bernd,

Thank you for all your effort and time, this is a great exercise!

It seems to me that your best option here would be AKG Position 2, I am a bit curious about how would that sound after normalizing to the -3dBFS we suggest. Do you think you can try it?

I'm asking because of the louder part which clearly is way higher than the rest of your recording,

What do you think, do you feel comfortable with AKG Position 2?

    Ahoj,

you can find the normalized wavs inside the same folder and link as above. Normalized both position2 files.
Position 2 actually requires less time to prepare.

Since I have those microphones only since some days I am a bit amazed they are both not catching the notebook noise which is basically just 2 feet away. Seems like I finally bought some good quality.

Please re-listen and thank you so far.

    Hi Bernd,

First, Thank you, really this has been one of the most pleasant and fun conversations in a while!

Your effort, options, willingness is amazing, we are going to achieve great things.

Let's talk audio, in this case... it seems like the AT2020 is giving you better results, but, only in the middle section, you sent three different volumes, the one in the middle seems to work best. However, it will be necessary to tackle the plosives, as this mic is picking it more.

Good thing is, it is delivering a better low end than the AKG.

Do you think you can record a new one with the gain of the middle one of Technica Position 2 Normalized?

    Things to keep in mind:

    • Plosives
    • Look at the input level and let me know where is it peaking
    • Mouth noises, but you already are taking care of that

Let me know what you think

    Heyho,

so the at2020 normalized has a constant gain from ~0:30 till the end.
With the "third gain" you probably mean the one starting from the shouty bit?

All I did was leaning backwards a little (shouting -> not too close to mic... I thought and it seems as if this was already too much).

    Do you mean I should re-record a position2-AKG-withgainoftechnica?

    Hi Bernd,

Yes, it is the part that starts around 0:30

Remember that we're talking Technica Position 2.

With that on mind, please remember these:

    • Plosives
    • Look at the input level and let me know where is it peaking
    • Mouth noises, but you already are taking care of that

Let me know if this is more clear for you

Finally I had time to record this... so here is a direct link to the file. Midlevel, position2, technica, normalized -3, mono 16bit,44.1

    Hi Bernd,

Thank you for this, I think we found our level and place to record! Amazing!

There are a bit of plosives affecting your audio still, are you using a pop filter? If you are, how about positioning the mic at a slight angle to further prevent the air of the plosives like "B", "T" and "P" from hitting the mic's capsule?
