    Hi Gwen,

Thank you for reaching out, we're very happy to have you here.

Upon reviewing your file, seems like there could be a couple of things we could do to improve what is already a good recording.

Do you mind telling us about your editing and processes on the audio?

Also, it seems like there are some early reflections being caught by the mic, is there a chance you could send us pictures of your recording space to give you specific feedback for your setting?

OK, I am a little embarrassed to be showing these pictures b/c I record in a closet (even though I've been told that other people do it and that's how they start until they get their recording areas set up).  As you can see it is quite insulated with all of my stuff!  :-)

    On this one:

    1) after recording and picking the best one, I normalized to -3

    2) ran spitfish de-esser (as I have an issue usually with hissing on my s's)

    3) did an amplify to reduce areas between phrasing

    3)  did a noise reduction to help with my noise floor and any other noises

    4) then did some fade outs on some areas

    5)  one or two little repairs when I head a mouth noise

Not sure how much is over editing (still fairly new to this).  I don't think my ears pick up everything which is why I normalize first before I start editing.

My system is a Scarlett Solo and as you can see I have a Kaotica Eyeball on the mic.

Thanks for the review and help.  Appreciate it!

    Thank you so much, Gwen!

    This is very very helpful!

Now, you're completely right, and you'd be surprised to know how many of our Pros do record inside their closets, so nothing to be ashamed! Thank you for being so brave and sharing.

    Let's get to it...

There seem to be early reflections being captured by the mic. So my first question here is, what mic are you using?

About the editing process, thank you for that detailed explanation. Do you think you can send us a raw version of the recording? That way we'll get a picture of what we're getting right from the capture.

I have a Focusrite Scarlett Solo 2nd gen bundle which includes a Focusrite CM25 Condenser Microphone.  I have attached a link to the raw version of the recording.  Thank you so much for your help and feedback.

    Hi Gwen,

Thank you for this raw version, I just shared with our QC team and this is your feedback:

There are some slight mouth clicks, other than that it's ok

Based on that, I'd recommend the following:

    1. Apply your noise reduction mildly
    2. Work on the gaps between phrases
    3. Normalize to -3dBFS

    How does that sound?

Awesome, thanks so much for the feedback.  I will take the raw file and play with it some more based on your suggestions.  Appreciate your help!
