Requesting for assistance on my rejected audition
Hi Good Day :)
I submitted my very first audition a couple of days ago and got a rejection with the following reason:
====================
Hi,
Thank you for your submission; we greatly appreciate your effort. Unfortunately, we won\'t be able to approve your application due to the following issue(s):
-It sounds as if the audio was not recorded with professional equipment. Please ensure you are using a professional microphone and equipment to record properly.
We trust our feedback will help you improve the quality of your work and achieve professional results.
====================
I did in fact use a professional microphone (Maono AU-A04T Condenser Mic) to record the script given to me. I even recorded with a DIY soundproofing box put in my closet full of clothes as I saw that it helps from voice-over tips I've read and seen on the internet.
After recording, I just made the following simple adjustments (via Audacity) before submitting for review:
1. Noise Reduction
2. Flattened the EQ
I'm not sure how else to improve the quality so if anyone can help out, I would really appreciate it so I can resubmit with an improved version and hopefully pass the initial screening. Here are the links to my recorded voice-overs (raw and edited)

Hi Donnie,
Thank you very much for reaching out.
After careful revision with the team, we found you have a good recording! There's room for improvement and we'd love to help you with that.
We have a couple of suggestions for you:
1. There seems to be boominess on your audio, our team suggest applying a slight filter at 150hz and see if it helps.
2. It seems you could benefit from some acoustic treatment, we have an article that might help you with that: Acoustic Treatment
Please, give those a try and come back with new audio for our team,
All the best :D
Hi Johnatan, thank you for your feedback and suggestions.
Before I make adjustments, can I confirm if you’re referring to applying a high pass or low pass filter?
Will try to send an updated link here in this thread within a few days. Thank you so much
This would be a high pass filter, Donnie.
Thank you, we'll be waiting for you :D
Hi Johnatan, I have already made some adjustments to my initial recording based from your suggestions.
Here's the link to my new recording for your review.
Thanks again for all the help!
Hi Donnie,
Thank you for this. I. just shared your sample with our team, and although you did some improvement, it seems both issues are still present on your recording.
Is there a way you could work a bit more on those suggestions we gave you before?
Hi Johnatan, thanks again for your feedback. I will just try to record the same script and hopefully improve the acoustics to remove the unwanted echo.
Also can you suggest other fine tunings that may come in handy so I can apply them as well? (E.g. hard pass filter = 150hz) thank you 😊
Hello Donnie!
How are you?
Thank you very much for being part of our community. I was checking your audio and in fact the major problem you have to tackle is the room echo present on the recording. I really don't think applying an EQ could help as much as if the acoustics of your space are improved, this will help to keep the overall quality of your voice and audio in general.
If you want, you can upload some pictures of your space to see if we can give you detailed feedback on how to improve the acoustics of your room.
Thanks a lot again for reaching out and hope you have a merry christmas :).
Gabriel
Hello Gabriel,
I was away for the holidays and only managed to get home yesterday. Thanks so much for the feedback, and as requested, here are photos of my apartment. The audio I submitted was recorded in the living room in the round table on the picture. I have a DYI soundbox where I put my microphone (Maono AU-A04T USB condenser mic) in, but apparently my setup wasn't able to keep the echo out.
Hope you can provide feedback as to how I can improve the acoustics so I can record a better audio. Here are the links to my pictures, I also included a shot of the bedroom as I'm also thinking of recording here as an alternative spot inside our apartment.

Thank you so much and happy holidays as well :)

Hello Mark! How are you?
Happy holidays, we really wish you to have an outstanding year 2021.
Thank you for sending the pictures. From checking them, now I can relate the room echo issue of your audios. As Jonathan mentioned, we suggest you to check out this article:
https://help.bunnystudio.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/203461624-Tip-5-Basic-acoustic-treatment-is-not-rocket-science
This gives you some basic but pretty useful guidelines in order to start treating your space. What I see from the pictures is that your space is really big, either your living room and your main bedroom. This means that in order to treat them properly this would require a lot more of work. What I can suggest you initially is maybe trying inside a closet (this can bring some more issues if the closet is too small and closed up, making the audio to sound 'boxy') or maybe trying to set up a home vocal booth that is surrounded by hanged clothes and if possible locate some carpet on the floor. You need to start to close up the space a bit, so maybe locating yourself in a corner can work also. After that, you would need to use some acoustic panels in the corners and in the walls to avoid the direct reflections being captured by your mic.
Here you can find useful information on how to build a Home Vocal Booth:

Please let me know your thoughts about it. It is important to be aware that this acoustic conditioning of your space requires patience and a little bit of trial and error as we are not using professional equipment to measure precisely how the acoustics on your space work.
Have a nice week :)
Gabriel
