    Hi James,

Thank you very much for reaching out and working on your improvement.

The best way to do this is by sending us your file via Google Drive, Dropbox, SoundCloud, OneDrive, etc... as platforms such as Youtube will process your audio and giving us different results.

Do you think you can help us with that?

Thank you for your quick reply,

It seems the sharing settings are a bit jealous ;) how about leaving it open to anyone with the link so our team can evaluate it?

    Looking forward to it

Hey James, just another Pro here, but wondered if you'd heard back about your sample yet? I'm British and you're American so it's not like we're in competition with each other and I wondered if I could help? I don't see many conversations between users but as a 'Community' I think it would be nice to see Pros talking more on here.

I listened to your sample and the main issue I hear is you have quite a lot of background noise (-45dB) where it should be less than -60dB. It's affecting the audio and making it sound less then 'clean' if you know what I mean. Also there are some obvious breath sounds on there that are distracting.

Happy to help if you want me to.

    Dave,

Hey, thanks for reaching out. I wasn't sure what to do about the breath sounds, if they're supposed to be taken out or not. I'm relatively new in the game, even though I've been reading scripts for the same company for the past 20 years. ha!
I'll have to look into the background noise. My booth isn't exactly a tight seal... Ok, thanks again for the help. It's nice to know what the specific problem is so I can at least try to address it. I have a Presonus comp/eq in the chain that might be causing me grief (it has in the past). I'll try yanking it out of there to see if it helps.

No problem. If you do remove the breaths, don't just leave total silence behind as it sounds 'odd'. Your background should be room tone but at less than -60dB. There's lots on the Internet to show you how to do it. Happy to help.

    Hello James!!

Thank you very much for reaching out. And Kudos to Dave for helping out us here and giving your important feedback in our community :) we really appreciate it and value your participation.

James: I was listening to your sample and indeed there is an issue on regards hiss/white noise in the background of your recording. This might be caused for several issues. (In case you haven't checked this out yet, we invite you to review a webinar we hosted on how to control and manage hiss here: https://bit.ly/2ZixGeI)

Hiss/white noise can be caused for several reasons such as defective cables or pre-amps inputs. You could try using a different cable or a different input in your audio interface or pre-amp. Also, you might be recording your signal too loud. What we suggest is that you setup your pre-amp in a way that the signal recorded in your DAW is peaking around -6dBFs and then you should normalize to -3dBFS as per our QC standards.

Please try the following and let us know if it worked :).

Hope you both have an amazing weekend.

    Gabriel
