Accepted/Rejected....a constant issue!

    Hi Kara,
Thank you for reaching out to us. :)

Don't feel embarrassed at all, no one is born with the tech knowledge or know-how and it's a very safe space on our community page!

I was looking into how to normalize using Garageband and unfortunately, it seems that it doesn't have this feature! So no wonder you are confused by the remarks from QC.

Firstly, it would be worth looking at downloading a better digital audio workstation (DAW).
Depending on your budget, here are a few suggested DAWs:
Adobe Audition, Reaper, or even Audacity as this is free.

Normalization is the application of a constant amount of gain to an audio recording to bring the average or peak amplitude to a target level.

If you would like to upload your audio so I can provide feedback, still feel free to do so.
You can do this in a number of ways. Uploading it to your google drive and sharing the link in this forum is one, or if you have dropbox you could send the link here also for me to listen to.

Hope you have a great week!

    Kind regards,

    Samantha

    Hi Samantha,

By the way, i was told to ask for Hector in person.

Sorry I didn't reply sooner but i was waiting for something to come into my inbox.

    well, we're getting somewhere!

How do other garagband users "normalise" is it with the two volume controls?

Since I wrote this I completely reloaded my Apogee One. Everything seems much happier. A little Speedy i did for you a few days ago was accepted without a problem.

i really can't switch to Twisted Wave or whatever, now. It's too much to take on...I have 2 books to record for ACX.

can you access this demo done 3 days ago.

    Hi, Ladies!

First of all, Kara: thanks a bunch for joining this space. I told our Bunny Managers to ask you to summon me on this because of a project in particular, which we'll be addressing if you're up for it! I'm glad that Sam jumped in with a very good piece of advice, something to ponder and include in our upcoming interactions, no doubt!

So, first things first Kara, I've had the opportunity to review many of your projects during my tenure in the QC troops. I'm sorry that our work may seem a bit inconsistent at times, but it's just since even the most solid pros can deliver audio that may request a revision now and then. Keep in mind that we issue revisions on a per-project basis, so if a particular read or deliverable presents a quality issue, we must and will bring it up.

Now, what our Bunny Managers relayed to me originally pertained to an echo issue that seems resolved in the recording you shared with us in your last comment, which indeed was addressed by adjusting your interface. I'm super curious as to what it is you did and how you're working now. Apart from using that great piece of gear and Garageband, what does your recording space look like? What mic are you rocking? What sort of processing do you apply to your recordings? I'd love to know all about your workflow!

I'm interested, however, in helping you transition from Garaband onto something more flexible, powerful, and easy to use. Also, something that may be better suited for VO work, as Garageband can be used for this sort of work, but it's really not tailored for our needs. Hence, I support Sam's advice on maybe decanting for Audition or Reaper. They both enable us to automate many of the editing/processing tasks required in VO work and they're affordable enough for pros of just about every level of expertise and might be just the ticket for someone who does long-form as you do.

Please let me know if you'd be interested in becoming technified through this post, as it's something that we can achieve very quickly. For instance: if you wish to attach anything here, all you need to do is click on the little pic icon above the text input field or drag-and-drop any image that you want to include in a reply. You can also paste links from any filesharing service (as you did with the one for Soundcloud) to share vids or audio for evaluation purposes.

If you're up for this, please let me have a totally raw, unprocessed piece of audio in the highest quality possible so that I can tinker around with it in Reaper/Audition and suggest pre-vetted strategies or FX Chains that you can just load and use with ease =)

    Cheers!

    Hey, Kara!

No worries, we understand that things can get a bit hectic! I had the chance to review at least one (maybe more) of your auditions/bookings in the past few weeks, and I got to say that I can't remember even thinking of rejecting your audio. I do know that the team is still on track with improving and elevating the standards, so upgrading on your part does sound like a very good idea indeed! Please, make sure to follow any indication from QC in case of a revision request, and feel free to contact our Bunny Managers with any question that helps you clarify their intention, or just to request tips in a speedy manner.

Do remember that this channel is always open too! The team will be glad to solve your audio quandaries, so don't hesitate and contact us!

I'm transitioning into a different position and won't be actively auditing your recordings anymore, but I'll check back on this space as often as possible. In the meantime, please remember that a whole team is here for you.

    Cheers!

    Hi Kara,

You mean, you don't understand your rates?

That makes sense. I'd love to help you out with that.

How about you let me know the rates you'd like to receive for 5 words and 50,000 words so I can create a suggestion for you?

Let me know what you think
