What to buy for my new studio?

    My advice:

If you can, go to a professional audio gear dealer and try a number of different microphones, with the maximum price around 1000€ because you need more for your recording space. Listen back, and see which best suits your voice. (you may be able to order them to your home and return them - I use a Sennheiser 416, which works well for my voice, but we're all different).

That same shop should be able to help you set up a vocal chain that will make your voice shine in a couple different scenarios (eg. commercial, narration, character work, different volume levels...) and send you home with both the plugins and setting for your DAW. If they can't do it, try to find a professional who can guide you. This should be the least expensive part of your process.

Spend the rest (the majority) of the money on your recording space. You may be able to buy an isolation booth but if not, sound foam, bass traps... maybe upgrade a window or two to better eliminate outside noise.... anything you can do to eliminate outside noise and calm the noise in your space.

The microphone and the recording space are the absolute most important pieces of the puzzle, so you should spend accordingly to make sure you get them right.

Of course, this is all assuming you have the vocal training for performance and technique...

Congratulations, good luck, and have fun!

    Hello Violeta and Jack!

I just wanted to come here and say thanks to Jack for the amazing advice, those are great tips and ideas on how to invest that money in the best way! As he mentioned, focusing on a good mic and improving the space are the definitive priorities, I just hope that you can find a nice store that lets you try different mic options as some stores outside of the US can be a bit reserved regarding equipment testing. Still, maybe finding a place that allows returns could also be a good idea so you can test a mic in your studio and decide if you like it or return it and try another one. If you want to share some samples of the new gear with us feel free to do so!

I hope you both have an amazing day :)

    Kind regards,

    Daniel
