Hi Tina. I'm in the exact same situation. I have a treated room but they specifically said that I should NOT use any kind of noise reduction. Even without that, I don't hear any hiss or white noise which is what they complained about. Now I have to try and get them to give me another chance.

    Hi Tina,

Apologies for such a late response, we have been inundated this past week.

Firstly thank you for reaching out to us on here. :)

I had a listen to your recording, there is both white noise and room echo/reverb present.

The reverb sounds like it could be hard surfaces close by that are causing reflections.
Do you have any hard surfaces close by in your recording space? For instance, desks, windows, mic stands?
Are you reading your script from your laptop? Computer? A flat-screen?

As for the white noise, it's there, but not massively distracting. As the gent in the other thread mentioned it's more noticeable at the beginning and end of your recording. Curious, how high do you have the dial on your pre-amp set? We suggest having it dialed to the 12-noon mark or below, as this is one of the main causes for white noise being present in people's recordings (I've been guilty of this myself!).

Nevertheless, Tina, you did a fantastic reading of the audition script and you certainly have a lovely voice. With some minor tweaks (like a little further acoustic treatment to cover up any hard surfaces that could be presently close by) and you'll be good to go!

    Hi Holton,

We do try and encourage people not to use noise reduction methods and to address any white noise from the root cause. This is because we have found people implement it too much and it affects the overall quality of their audio. However, some corrective EQing is certainly not out of the question and many of our pros use them. :)

Hope you both have a great week!

    Kindest regards,
    Samantha

Thank you so much Samantha, it could be the glass window between the booth and the studio or the song book holder where my script was on paper? Will try again and see if we can fix it. Really appreciate your feedback.

Ah yes, them two things; the window and songbook holder can sometimes be troublesome with reverb.

Here is a little video that may help with some inspiration for adding materials in a cost-effective way, should you need it (he makes acoustic panels, but it's interesting to see how even using cheap towels can make a difference) :

Once you've made some changes feel free to attach an audio sample on here if you like, I'm always happy to lend an ear!

    Best wishes,
    Samantha
