My audition was rejected
I was initially rejected due to. Your recording does not reflect the age the client requested." and There is \'boxiness\' impacting your recording which makes it sound as if it was recorded in a very small space. Please ensure you record in an acoustically treated environment. If you already have acoustic treatment, it may not be adequate. the tips I got where to record in a small room. I have a small room with no mirrors and blankets hung up shirts and everything the steps entailed so it may just be my boxy voice.
I was wondering what age you think I should apply for if not a young adult thank you for your time.

Hi Hunter!
I'm not part of the quality control team, but I'm one of the BP's here. To me, you sound like a young adult... anywhere from 20-40 years old.
As for the sound quality, I can hear a little bit of what some people call "boxiness." This is usually caused by the sound of your voice reflecting off of a surface and back into your mic. You're recording in a small room, which is great... but too small of a room can cause boxiness, too. Heavy blankets on the walls are great for sound absorption, as are racks of clothes if you're in a walk-in closet. Also, don't forget your floor or ceiling; uncarpeted floors can reflect a lot of sound with a bare ceiling above it. Additionally, try to keep your mic in the middle of the space, as far away from the walls as you can comfortably manage.
The other issue I notice is unwanted mouth and breathing noises that are especially apparent after sentences and between phrases. Be conscious of those, and edit them out of your audio file as necessary before submitting it. If you're not currently using a pop filter, I would suggest one. This can be as simple as a few layers of pantyhose stretched on a hanger placed between your mouth and the microphone.
Cheers,
Chuck
Hi Chuck thank you for the feed back!
I have my room set up that way so I think I will try and move my mic to the center like you suggested and hopefully that will improve or fix the "boxiness"
I have noticed that problem as well I have been doing more and more to fix that I do have a pop filter but and I make to drink water and swosh it around so my mouth is not as dry, I believe maybe I should turn my gain down a bit more that seemed to help it but I guess it is still a problem to work on.
Thank you once again for the wonderful feed back it helps a lot.
Hello Hunter and Chuck!
I just wanted to leave a quick message here, it is very nice to see this type of interaction between Pros helping each other :) Thank you so much for helping, Chuck! Those tips and advice are awesome!
Also Hunter, for removing plosives you can also try to get rid of them with a high-pass at around 130Hz, this works especially well if the plosive is mostly low-end noise, if it is too strong it might not fix it completely, but that awesome idea for the DIY pop filter is something I will start suggesting in the future! (Thanks again, Chuck!)
Kind regards,
Daniel
