Accent Rejection: What are the types of accent requests on the market right now?
Hi there Voice Bunny Support team and all my fellow voice artists!
I received a rejection for two reasons-
1) Accent
2) Audible echo
I'm not too bothered about the audible echo as I know how I can work on that, however, I am puzzled about the accent. I want to try American but I also love my Asian accent so much I don't ever want to change it. I feel that as long as it can communicate effectively, hell YES! I mean hello Ronny Chieng and Michelle Yeoh (whose accents are so different but they are both still Asian). AND I think it is a niche that Voice Bunny can look into =D
Here's the link to the sample that I sent =) https://drive.google.com/file/d/1QiXoQ-H3iEQes1TjzcfHYBap71nXzYzX/view?usp=sharing
I was aiming for an American English accent but after listening to it again I clearly have quite a bit to work on. I was just giving Voice Bunny a shot and now I know that they are serious about quality! Which is awesome.
Having said that, I'm also on Voquent and I recently received an audition request specifically for English (Singaporean/Chinese leaning). I'm wondering, what the conversations are in the industry right now about Asian leaning accents. What are the categories? And are clients aware of them?
To me, Filipino accent is so different from a Malaysian accent, which is very different from a Beijing accent which is also different from a Hong Kong accent.
There is a general guide for Western English accents e.g. Brooklyn vs. Hampshire vs. Southern OR Australian vs UK vs American, but there really isn't anything quite specific for Asian accents.
For example, what IS a 'General Asian' accent, and do clients who are non-Asian even know the difference? Or do they want Asian people to sound like a stereotypical Jackie Chan-type voice? Does anyone know if there are conversations like this that happen in the voice over industry? Or anyone can help to point me in the direction of someone/a community that discusses this?

Hello Grace!
Thank you so much for reaching out and bringing this very interesting topic to our community forums!
At the moment we do not have those distinctions in the platform, but it is a great opportunity to find a way to present all the accent options that could not only be provided by talents but also be requested by clients!
I will bring this case to our product team so it can be considered for future releases in the platform, and I encourage any other Pros that might read this post to please post your answers/thoughts/comments on this matter.
Thank you again, and feel free to share any other comments or feedback!
Kind regards,
Daniel
