Seeking Input from Other VO Pros regarding Quality of Sound
Hoping this post can result in some feedback from other pro's on this site. I'm new to VO and have been on Bunny 3+ months now. It's had it's good moments and some bad- mostly related to audio recoding quality control. I've also started on some other sites that pay more however the auditions are either accepted or not with no feedback. So my point is Bunny is the only site providing me feedback; and I'm feeling a bit lost with the rejections that keep noting compression, boxiness, over-processed. Back when I started, my first step was to go back to the company that trained me; and not exaggerating, their grammy winning sound guy said there was nothing material to be concerned about and pointed back to possibly the equipment the judges were using. Great, but I still needed a fix. So I started adjusting gain and normalization to meet the judges revision requests. It has worked, but the issue is that while one day my settings work for 99% of the jobs, there will be a random revision request for aforementioned reasons. I've even had the same judge reject a deal and approve a deal the same day both were submitted with identical settings.
I'm dealing with that, but seeking advice on what other Pro's use or do. I will note that I'm using a free version of ProTools with a Scarlett interface box. My mic is 3 Zigma CHI and I have a pop filter. I record in a booth that is PVC constructed and wrapped with moving blankets and a variety of other blankets to deaden sound. That booth was sound approved by the company that trained me. I'm getting input from one of the judges that has noted boxiness issues but unfortunately his input is going over my head as I'm not well versed in Pro Tools.
Again...any help or input from others would be so appreciated. Are there better or shall I say easier to use forms of software out there, particularly for this site? Hope to hear back from others and thanks in advance!
