Not sure if this will help but do you use the "air button" on you scarlett?

I think it is worth a try.

I found out that it is a built in audio processor by Focusrite.

It gave more depth to my voice and at the same time it seems to not overprocess which is quite important.

I listened to your samples and I think it may help

    Hi Briony!

This is Gabriel from Bunny Studio. Thank you so much for participating here in the community and a big Kudos to Stephen for hopping in! We really appreciate your input :).

On the other hand, I was listening to these samples and I do agree they sound boxy. However, the second sample doesn't sound that bad at all! The first one indeed has a lot of issues but the second and third one are not that far for sounding good enough!

As I mentioned, the second one is the recording with the best overall sound, - it would be amazing if you could record some samples using exactly the same settings and environment. This way, we can tweak your setup and assure that the quality will be good enough for all the audios you submit from now on. Do you maybe recall in which circumstances did you record this sample?

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts about this!!

    All the best,

    Gabriel

    Hi Gabriel,

Thanks for your help with this. I'm really keen to get my setup sounding as good as I possibly can!

I have uploaded some new samples below the ones you have heard. I have included raw and processed versions of each one so that you can hear what I'm working with. Here is the link again: https://brionyrawlevoiceover.com/?page_id=483

All the samples have been recorded in exactly the same environment, the only differences being the usual adjustments to gain, and possibly fractional changes to mic position. Everything else is just down to differences in my processing, probably the EQ.

I have been making improvements to my processing since recording the first sample, but my usual steps now are these:

    1. Edit the audio to match the script (deleting first takes etc)

    2. Turn down volume of any overly-loud peaks in the sound by hand to help Normalise function do its thing.

    3. Test preset effects (Parametric EQ and De-Esser). I have a few preset settings for different styles, which I use as a starting point and then tweak by hand to sound best on each particular recording. This is why they all sound so different from each other.

    4. Apply preset effects.

    5. Normalise to -3dB (have experimented with -4).

    6. Noise Removal

    7. De-clicker

I haven't yet tried Simchahellinger's suggestion about the Air button on my interface.

Let me know your thoughts on these new samples, hope you can help!

    Thanks so much,

    Briony
