Recording requested by Angela Serrano for quality - feedback much appreciated!
Hello there, I have been asked by Angela to record a sample for the purposes of quality of recording, as hiss and hum has been on my recordings. I have new equipment - an SE 2200a MkII mic along with a Focusrite Scarlett solo interface, and a Marantz Professional Sound Shield Live. I also have acoustic treatment in the room I am using for recordings. All the equipment is new and I think its a case of tweaking to get the best possible sound. Feedback and advice very much appreciated! Many thanks, Claire
....thank you Angela - here is a recording I was going to send to you direct but now have a link:

Hi Claire!
Can you please share a Google Drive, Soundcloud or Dropbox link with us? These work great to share these type of files as we can listen to them on their player.
Thank you!
Hi Claire!
Thanks for sharing the link. I'm really sorry for getting here so late. As you edited the post, I wasn't notified. My apologies for that! I'll be more careful next time.
So! I feel the recording has a lot of room echo and some pops and mouth noises. I would suggest you check the acoustic treatment of the space you're recording in. I know you're using a Sound Shield, but you may need some extra treating to achieve a clean recording. For example, I own the Kaotica Eyeball but it doesn't reduce all the background noises and echo from my apartment. I get into my closet and use the clothes as a padding as an extra solution here and It does help a lot. You could try something similar!
If that doesn't help you that much, you can try some other alternatives. We have an article on cheap acoustic treatment options you can try and we also hosted a webinar where we went a bit more in detail on this topic.
For the pops and the mouth noises, I believe it's a matter of adding a pop filter and recording a bit farther from the mic. The voice sounds a bit too near which boosts these problems.
Hope this helped!
Hi Claire!
I see that you added a new take here.
So, listening to it, the mouth noises and pops are much much better! However, there is still a lot of room echo on the file. Do you have surfaces around you that could be generating some extra reflections? If you have a desk or a window by any chance? You could also try positioning your mic in a different way to reject most of the reflections or locating yourself maybe nearer some of the panels.
The recording is also a bit sibilant, but this can be fixed by positioning yourself a bit off-axis from the mic. This works really well.
We're almost there, I'm sure!
Hi Angela,
its been a while, because I have been trying to improve my recordings, working on my mic technique and also building a floor to ceiling recording booth in my studio! So here is the recording I just made. I hope it is up to your high standards and if not feedback would be gratefully appreciated!

Hi Claire!
Thank youu for sharing.
The sibilance is a bit more prominent in this one. It sounds much brighter and there's some slapback echo in some areas. I believe this is coming from some reflective surfaces around you. Let's hope the booth improves a lot!
In the meantime, to reduce the brightness, I'd suggest you to record a bit off axis from the capsule. This usually helps a lot with that.
