Recording quality + performance tone and style
Hello everyone,
First time on this community page. I received and email about a recent project that mentioned performance and quality problems. I was asked to post the sample here for feedback. I have a professionally built quiet studio and rarely have any problems with quality. One problem they did mention was too much breath in the recording, which I believe can be very subjective depending on the project. That I can take care of, if needed. Any feedback is appreciated.

Hi Margie,
Thank you for reaching out to us on here!
Having listened to your recording from the project link you provided.
A loud breath is heard at 0:17, which disturbs the flow of your read. You can add fades to help soften this breath or remove it altogether, which would fix this.
You are right. In the right context and project, removing all breaths can be distracting in itself. However, for this recording, this one at 0:17 does stand out and is more noticeable than the rest. Nonetheless, this isn't a huge problem, but just something to be mindful of in future submissions.
There is also some reverb heard in your recording, which can be caused due to having close by hard surfaces reflecting frequencies. Adding some softer materials to these hard surfaces should fix this. For instance, some people find adding a towel/blanket over their tabletop/desk to be effective.
For the performance tone, here is a helpful post we have compiled together for tone:
How to impress your voice over client by nailing the right tone, style, and voice age!
It has been compiled together from a lot of data and common trends from our clients, so should help you in nailing the right tone our clients expect in this regard.
All in all great job! Thank you for being so proactive and reaching out.
Kind regards,
Samantha
